Question about Kenmore 98702 Stacked Washer/Dryer

Screw stuck in washer bottom

I have a model #41794702300 stackable Kenmore washer/dryer. A screw from someone's pocket has fallen into one of the holes at the bottom of the washer tub. It fell in with the head sticking about 1/2 inch out of the hole. However, now that we've fiddled with it for two days, the head has come off. The tub will not rotate; so I'm guessing the other end of the screw is stuck in a belt or something. How can we access the underneath side of the tub to remove the screw?

It appears you'll need to remove the tub in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

Kenmore Stackable washer/dryer Model #11088752793, won't heat

Hi,
Either the elements have blown, or it could be a device called a thermal overload which has popped. (There may also be a loose wire which connects to the heating elements). Have your drier checked out by a good handyman or technician.
Best wishes,
Graemevm

We have the kenmore stackable washer and dryer the water won't drain my husband thinks something is stuck in the pump Any ideas?

On the bottom front of the washer there are 2 screws.
Remove these screws and insert a screwdriver in the space where the front panel meets the washer top and push down on the screwwdriver. The locking tabs will come down with the front panel.
Pull the panel off and set it aside.
When you are through with the repair, tilt the machine back slightly and insert the panel tabs in the groove, place a screwdriver handle or something of similar thickness under the washer and front panel. Let it down on this and it will hold the panel up so that you can get the screws back in.

Kenmore washer agitator

Remove the agitator cap and the bolt in the middle that holds the agitator. Reach underneath the sides of the agitator and pull up. Try gently rocking it around as you pull, I'm sure it's going to be stuck pretty tight.
Good luck!

Screws fall off panel inside dryer

Not sure why this keeps on happening, but I would suggest putting a tiny bit of LocTite on the screws and then replacing them. It really only takes a drop. Give them at least half a day to a day to cure. LocTite WILL STAIN anything it gets on, so be sure to let the stuff dry.
Hope this helps!

We have had that happen too. You will need to take out what ever has blocked the valve on the drain. Ours was a bobby pin! My model is a bit different but if you follow the drain hose underneath you can find it. Remember you are dealing with lots of water. I think I scooped out the water first and have some towels ready. Or hire somebody to do it for you. I hope that helps.

Agitated with my agitator and spin cycle

Your problem could be with your transmission, which is located directly above the drive belt pulley under the wash tub. If they go bad, your motor will still function normally, but the wash tub will not spin or agitate. Now, another possible problem could be a nail or screw stuck in one of the wash basket holes pressing against the outer tub. I have personally seen this a couple of times. A dry wall screw or nail will stop the wash tub from spinning and cause the drive belt to smoke as the motor pulley turns, but the belt stays stationary. That could be the source of your smell. If you're a do-it-yourselfer or do a lot of carpentry work, you may have washed some clothes with a nail or screw in them. Inspect all the holes in the wash basket throughly. A nail or screw can easily be missed if your not looking for it. I hope this may help you.
