On my IBM Wheelwriter 6 my Code Cap does not work.

When I strike the L or P or = keys the carriage does not move it stays in place.

The wrong language setting for the IBM wheelwriter 6 can make it appear as if the keyboard is broken. Using the "CODE" key and "X" can toggle the Language light OFF. You can turn a language on via
"CODE" + "X" + ID # (which can be found on the printwheel module)

My issue was similar. Capital M would appear light on paper. Most of the keys on the right hand side (p[]l;'m,./) printed lightly notably l p and m

I found the owners manual and turned off the language key. This let everything work as it was suppose to.

Wheelwriter 6 typewriter hammer no longer strikes

It is pretty common for the pad on the solenoid to strike the keys wears out, and for the batteries to be dead for the memory. Your machine probably needs a good cleaning, oiling, and a new pad for the striker. about $100.00 in the shop.
