Question about Danby Silhouette DWC512BL Wine Cooler
I own a Danby silhouette DWC166BLSRH that stopped cooling. Danby sent a technician who could not find the problem and concluded there was a leak and the cooler is unrepairable. Is there a way to repair it?
SOURCE: wine cooler noise
The problem is likely with one of the two fans. A new fan is available from Danby (1-800-263-2629). My noisy fan is the condensor fan located at the bottom rear of the device. After removing the cooler from under the cabinet, the source of the noise was obvious. You will need to tell them whether it is the upper fan or lower fan. Leave the cooler upright for a few hours before you plug it in so that you do not damage the condenser. Price for the fan from Danby is $20.15 including shipping. I really like the Danby wine coolers, they are usually nice products. As far as your problem, I would first try to find out where the main problem area is. To do that first make sure that your compressor is running. If the compressor is running and it is not cooling then you may have a freon charge issue. Thats not to say that you can just put some more freon in and it is fixed, You would have a leak in your sealed system and you would most likely still have warranty coverage for that. Most Danby products carry a 5 year sealed system warranty. That would include your compressor.
If the compressor is not running then you would know that you have a compressor issue. Either the relay overload on the compressor would need to be replaced or the compressor itself was bad. You can buy relay kits for about $30.00 and intall them easily with very little experiance.
Next if the compressor is doing its thing and trying to cool you could have a fan not blowing air properly. either a condenser or evaporator fan may have stopped. If you find one not working then chances are you just need a fan. If the fans are blowing and the compressor is working then you would just have a defrost problem. In that case you would just need to defrost then check for bad parts, either a defrost heater, defrost thermostat or a defrost timer. Most of the Danby products have a defrost control board, that board willl contorl the defrost, the temperature, and the fans. If the board was cheap I would say just put one on and see if it fixed the problem, but they are around $145.00.
The most important thing for you would be to make sure you are not going to do something that would void your warranty. Free service is always the best. Good luck to you and send some wine my way, I make lots of different types. from grapes, strawberrys, muskedyne, etc.... email@example.com

Unplug your device, clean the mess and remove the filter.
After you have cleaned out the filter, remove the water tank. Inside of the area where the water tank was at the top you will see a small opening (drain) which is where the water comes from. It is probably clogged...
Take a few Q-tips and clean the inside of it. There is still probably water trapped inside so expect more water to come down as you do this. Once you're satisfied that the small drain is cleared, you can put everything back together and you should be good to go!
I had the same problem and that fixed it.

Sounds like we need to try to reset the system!
Huuum At your service!
Lets try this,
With an error code.
This can reset the system if it is electronic!
Unplug the appliance and wait a 5 minutes then restart it.
If you can't reach the plug, use the breaker to cut the power for 5 minutes.
It's like rebooting your computer when its acting strange!
Usually it corrects some error problems if they are not serious.
Or they are sometimes just a glitch.
Let me know how it works! Waiting for your reply!
Please remember to leave a rating when you are done!
Thank You huuum
