Leak in a Danby silhouette DWC166BLSRH

I own a Danby silhouette DWC166BLSRH that stopped cooling. Danby sent a technician who could not find the problem and concluded there was a leak and the cooler is unrepairable. Is there a way to repair it?

The problem is likely with one of the two fans. A new fan is available from Danby (1-800-263-2629). My noisy fan is the condensor fan located at the bottom rear of the device. After removing the cooler from under the cabinet, the source of the noise was obvious. You will need to tell them whether it is the upper fan or lower fan. Leave the cooler upright for a few hours before you plug it in so that you do not damage the condenser. Price for the fan from Danby is $20.15 including shipping. SOURCE: Danby Silhouette Wine cooler won't

Hi sooner84,
I really like the Danby wine coolers, they are usually nice products. As far as your problem, I would first try to find out where the main problem area is. To do that first make sure that your compressor is running. If the compressor is running and it is not cooling then you may have a freon charge issue. Thats not to say that you can just put some more freon in and it is fixed, You would have a leak in your sealed system and you would most likely still have warranty coverage for that. Most Danby products carry a 5 year sealed system warranty. That would include your compressor.
If the compressor is not running then you would know that you have a compressor issue. Either the relay overload on the compressor would need to be replaced or the compressor itself was bad. You can buy relay kits for about $30.00 and intall them easily with very little experiance.
Next if the compressor is doing its thing and trying to cool you could have a fan not blowing air properly. either a condenser or evaporator fan may have stopped. If you find one not working then chances are you just need a fan. If the fans are blowing and the compressor is working then you would just have a defrost problem. In that case you would just need to defrost then check for bad parts, either a defrost heater, defrost thermostat or a defrost timer. Most of the Danby products have a defrost control board, that board willl contorl the defrost, the temperature, and the fans. If the board was cheap I would say just put one on and see if it fixed the problem, but they are around $145.00.
The most important thing for you would be to make sure you are not going to do something that would void your warranty. Free service is always the best. Good luck to you and send some wine my way, I make lots of different types. from grapes, strawberrys, muskedyne, etc.... mca0824@aol.com

Unplug your device, clean the mess and remove the filter.

After you have cleaned out the filter, remove the water tank. Inside of the area where the water tank was at the top you will see a small opening (drain) which is where the water comes from. It is probably clogged...
Take a few Q-tips and clean the inside of it. There is still probably water trapped inside so expect more water to come down as you do this. Once you're satisfied that the small drain is cleared, you can put everything back together and you should be good to go!

I had the same problem and that fixed it.

Hello
Welcome to fixya.
I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,

Sounds like we need to try to reset the system!

Huuum At your service!
Lets try this,
With an error code.
This can reset the system if it is electronic!
Unplug the appliance and wait a 5 minutes then restart it.
If you can't reach the plug, use the breaker to cut the power for 5 minutes.

It's like rebooting your computer when its acting strange!
Usually it corrects some error problems if they are not serious.
Or they are sometimes just a glitch.

Let me know how it works! Waiting for your reply!
Please remember to leave a rating when you are done!
Thank You huuum

Beeping will not stop on wine cooler - red wine side

Beeping usually indicates that something has gone wrong. Probably not cooling properly. The water coming out would indicate that the unit has defrosted. Turn the unit back on again and see if the red side is cooling properly. Some wine fridges have independent evaporators which allows different cooling temps in different parts of the cabinet.

Cooling - not

Have a heating/air conditioning person check the freon level to see if it needs to be refilled. Most modern day things that cool use freon gas to cool. It could be that it needs to be flushed and refilled, or perhaps you have a leak somewhere and all the freon is leaking out or has leaked out. Trust me one of my uncle's is a heating and cooling technician at a company called WinAir and he has fixed our home cooling systems many times. Those guys have tools, freon, and the right chemicals to see if you have a leak and need more freon.

Danby DWC166BLSRH is not cooling. Fan is on and a clicking sound comes on, and compressor is very hot but will not cool.

I have the same problem. Mine probably needs refrigerant so it's a safe bet that yours does too. I'm going to order some and fix it, then update.

The temperature won't go down and the compressor is extremely hot. The fan is running. What should i do?

Sounds like it may be low on referigerant, maybe due to a small leak. check all soldered/brazed connections with an old toothbrush and mr bubble solution, work the toothbrush around all joints very slowly as a small leak is hard to detect. If you find a leak it will range from a slight bubble to a more pronounced bubble if it is a larger leak.

The EPA regulations on the small appliances, (class 3) which should include your system; state you can vent remaining refrigerent into the atmosphere, but it is recomended to recover. If a leak is found it is best to call out a technician to recover, braze, vaccuum pump and charge the unit.

Was this gradally or all of a sudden, cause the thermostat switch could be bad or it vibrated and spranged a leak!
