Replaced incline motor on treadmill was stuck on incline 12 put new motor in and it went right back to incline 12 and stayed there what now? I spent 160 on this new motor and getting the same results

Hi There,

This person installed a new lift motor and had the same issue, so another new lift will do the same. What make/model of treadmill?
Lift commands come from the console to the lower board. Precor and some others use a Triac circuit to provide 120vAC for up or down, these parts can fail on the lower and cause this problem. Johnson Brands like Matrix, Vision, Horizon, Merit and others, use a relay set for up and down also commanded by the upper board.
I have seen upper boards cause this very problem. Contact for more help if needed. Good Luck

How do I clear the E6 code in a Xterra 3.0 treadmill?

An E6 or E7 error code is an incline error code. The E7 code means the potentiometer value the console is reading from the lift motor is out of range. This can happen when there is a bad wire harness connection or a damaged wire harness. It could also just mean the incline motor needs to be adjusted back into range. If all wire connections look ok, the incline motor will need to be adjusted.
  1. Turn the power OFF, wait 5-seconds and turn back ON.
  2. Get into test mode and enter through the I/O testing step. This screen will display the potentiometer value of the incline motor. Different models will have different values. Check to see if the running deck is raised to high incline level or if it is at the low level. If the running deck is at a low position press the incline up button. This will cause the incline motor to raise the running deck up. When the deck gets to a mid-level position, press the incline up button a second time to stop the deck. If the running deck is in a high incline position, use the incline down button to adjust the deck to a mid-level position.
  3. Once the unit is in the mid-level position, power the treadmill off for 5-seconds and then power it back ON.
  4. Start the treadmill.
  5. Once the treadmill starts the running deck will move to the level 0 position. If this does not resolve the issue or it will not adjust please contact customer service.
Also note that not all models will have the ability to adjust the incline motor. If the adjustment procedure is not found in the Owner's Manual then contact customer service.

Treadmill incline off it's track

I have the same problem as it continues to go higher without reversing. First note that when it does go back down it will drop with the whole weight of the unit so keep your hands clear. Unplug of course and straddle over the motor housing, grab both outside corner of the belt/table and slightly pull up and wiggle the arm with the teeth and the arm with the motor pivit indpendantly so its just a matter of realigning it and it will drop at the way down, (carefull its heavy and will drop hard so may be a good idea to put a few books of something stuffed under the sides to block it from dropping and possibly smashing your finger). Youll need to recalibrate, on the back of the motor panel is a spec sheet for techs, it has the recalibrate procedure on it. I just went through all this I have a problem with mine now reading the photo switch I think.

After recalibration, incline still doesn't work

Some elevation motor has 3 things:
1) Capacitor test it.
2) Limit switch for up and down,
3) Relais for up and down.
You must test it before to replace the complete elevation motor.
4) See if there are 110Vac to the terminal of the motor, if there are the motor is Faulty, If not test the 3 steps mentioned before.

Hello, WE have the model 4100i treadmill and the elevation is stuck in the highest position and won't reset to zero. How do I fix this or who can I call for this repair? Thanks, Tom

Try the calibration procedure found in the troubleshooting section of your manual first. Here are the basic instructions.
With the key in the console, press one of the Incline buttons. While the incline is changing (or the numbers on the console) , remove the key. After a few seconds, re-insert the key. The treadmill will automatically rise to the maximum incline level and then return to the minimum level. This will recalibrate the incline.
If it still doesn't move, remove the cover. Find the incline motor. You will see a slot in the end of the motor. Using a drill with a standard slotted screwdriver bit, spin the motor counterclockwise (if it is having difficulties spinning, turn clockwise instead) for just a couple seconds. Now do the calibration procedure again.
I have had machines that got stuck before. Once released and recalibrated, the operation was OK.
The service number for your machine is found on the model number sticker on the frame of the treadmill.

Try to recalibrate the incline. Start the machine running, press the incline up button, then pull the safety key off. Release the incline up button and replace the safety key. The treadmill should go to maximum incline then minimum. after calibration is completed, retry the treadmill operation.

Under the hood there should be a tech sheet with calibration instructions. I have not worked on these for several years or I would rattle off the procedure. If the sheet is still there make sure you put it back in the plastic sleeve for next time..... Eric
