Power supply unit failure

I am informed by my local electronics fixer that the power supply unit is faulty and needs to be replaced. Is it still possible to acquire this unit for a device that was manufactured in August 2004? ( it has been an excellent product until very recently)

It could be the IC101 (MR2920) and the zener D104 both failed, or IC1 (MD5001T) failed as well, here is the link where I've descrived how I fix the issue on my DVR-520H, it is in italian but you can translate it with Google: http://www.plcforum.it/f/topic/181344-riparazione-guasto-alimentatore-pioneer-dvr-520h-dvr-520h-failure/

I need help with repairing HP z74 CRT monitor with power failure...

If your HP z74 CRT monitor is not turning on, there could be several potential causes. Some common causes of power failure in CRT monitors include:
  • A faulty power supply: The power supply is responsible for providing power to all the components of the monitor, so if it is not functioning properly, the monitor will not turn on. You can test the power supply by using a multimeter to measure the voltage at the output connectors. If the voltage is not within the expected range, the power supply may need to be replaced.
  • A faulty flyback transformer: The flyback transformer is a critical component of a CRT monitor, as it converts the high voltage AC input from the power supply into the low voltage DC output required by the other components of the monitor. If the flyback transformer is faulty, the monitor will not turn on. You can test the flyback transformer by using a multimeter to measure the voltage at the output terminals. If the voltage is not within the expected range, the flyback transformer may need to be replaced.
  • A faulty or blown fuse: The fuse is a safety device that protects the monitor from damage due to excessive current. If the fuse is blown, the monitor will not turn on. You can test the fuse by using a multimeter to measure the resistance across the fuse. If the resistance is very high or infinite, the fuse is blown and will need to be replaced.
To diagnose the specific cause of the power failure on your HP z74 CRT monitor, you may need to open the monitor and perform some basic tests using a multimeter. This will help you identify the specific problem and take the appropriate steps to fix it. It is important to note that working on electronic equipment can be dangerous, so if you are not familiar with electronics repair, it is best to seek the assistance of a qualified professional.

I have a plasma tv the power button goes on then off in a second does anyone have an answer why

Hey Craig,
I've seen this common problem in several models of flat panel TV's, especially 4 to 5 year old Walmart Black Friday specials. The capacitors in the power supply dry out and fail, causing the power supply to fail. When you try to turn the TV on, the power supply refuses to start and the unit shuts off. This problem that the local (in Phoenix) Fry's Electronics sells a power supply capacitor replacement kit for several models of flat panels. If you are compelled to check it out, the units are typically easy to disassemble, and the power supply PCB (printed circuit board) is normally well marked. The caps are blue and/or yellow cylinders, mounted on end. Defective ones, in this use dry out, overheat, and swell up, causing the top to noticeably bulge out. Without knowing more details I would suggest that this is a most likely failure for your TV. Thanks for using fixya. I hope it helps. Dan

Compaq Presario F700 Won't Turn On

Assuming the unit is plugged in, this could be an issue with the power supply, or an issue where the cord connects to the laptop. If the power connector on the back of the laptop is secure / doesn't feel loose or damaged, you may want to simply get a replacement power supply from a local electronics store. Be sure to take the make and model information of the laptop and the power supply with you to the store.

Faulty power transformer

Hi, remove the old transformer and take it to your local electronics parts store. They will be able to supply a similar unit. Failing that search parts suppliers on the net. Cheers john. styluscity.com

My samsung 50 in. projection tv comes on for about a minute, the picture fades out and 10 seconds later the sound goes off and the tv shuts down.

You might wish to unplug the TV for an hour or more. If this power reset does not allow the TV to turn on component failure is indicated. These sets are assembled using the wave soldering process they are known for having cold solder connections.

The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down or will keep it from turning on when it detects a problem. This model of TV has over 2,000 parts, which includes millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Diodes and IC can go bad. This may have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced.

The only way to know for sure which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for a proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment specifically designed for TV service and the skills to use the test equipment. I wish I could tell you there was a quick fix or button to push that would fix the TV but that is not the case or the solution needed to get the TV operating correctly.

It's the problem of overheating in the power supply board of the TV.on the power supply board of the TV there are few capacitors and IC.any of this IC is got short or may be weak.so due to this when you start the TV the current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV.but when the current passes from that weak/faulty part at that time current gets stopped or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off.

This is a common problem faced by many other users too.the possible option to solve this issue is to check the power supply board by a meter and continuity tester and replace the faulty component on the board which is short due to which power supply board is getting overheated.its bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician. for required parts it can be easily available from local electronic hardware shop.

Take care.

My power supply had ashort circuit smell burnd,

This power supply is a standard power supply that will handle 200 plus watts.
It can be replaced with just about any ATX supply and really would be a waist of time trying to trouble shoot it.
Any 24 Pin ATX supply will work just fine in its place.

My tv does not turn on

Hi,

This problem is likely a failed power supply. This is a known issue with this model TV. It will normally occur soon after the warrenty expires. Power supply problem

As an electronics tech, you should know that replacement part information can only be obtained from the original manufactuer. A public "fix-it" forum is the least likely place for such specific information.
Have you tried asking at the supermarket? Of course not.
