I just purchase a DirecTv Tivo Sony Sat T60. Before I install it I put in a RCA Powered MultiSwitch and tested it with my 2 current receivers. The Newer one, an RCA DirecTv Plus system. It works with no problem. I am getting a signal strength of over 90 on both odd and even transponders. I also have a old RCA receiver. This one only gets signal from the odd transponders. Taking the multiswitch out of the picture and putting in a connector the old receiver gets a signal strength of around 90 on both odd and even transponders.
What could be the problem or can't the old receiver drive the multiswitch

My 1st gen RCA DRD102 box works just fine with with my D6520 unpowered multiswitch. I have, however, found that one of the ports is bad (low signal) and another port has a flaky relay.

If memory serves, the "DirectTV Plus" models differed in being capable of tuning between two satellites but older models could only look at one. It's a basic requirement that all DirectTV receivers be able to tune even/odd transponders and yours appears to do so when the multi-switch is not in the loop.
Sounds like something else is amiss in your setup. Weak DC voltage caused by poor cable or connection? Marginal multiswitch?
If all else fails, look at the DC voltage output on your cable-in port(s). If they are OK, make similar measurements at the multiswitch.
