High pitched noise coming from set.

My Samsung HLM5065W has a high pitched noise eminating from the set. This is independant of any channel signal or external device connected to the set. It also appears worse when first turned on. Although I haven't opened the set up yet, I suspect it may be a filament rattle on the bulb but it seems extremely high pitched and rich in harmonics compared to filament rattle I have heard before. Could it possibly be a fan or maybe the little DLP chip with the mirrors on it, which I have no idea what it is called. I cannot tell the primary frequency of the noise but it is a guess at around 7-15khz and 80-85db so it is quite evident and annoying. Thanks I have the same problem coming from my GE-TV (model: 25GT536) that was passed down to me from my friend's parents. It comes and goes, this time it seems like it's staying indefinately. It's gotten so bad that I've been getting massive headaches. And, I tracked it back to only when I'm watching tv. So...this has to be it...right?

Hi there high pitched noise form the set indicates that one of the coils inside the set are lose this happens with age and heat the coils are made of copper and are tightly glued or soldered together and can be as small as a bit of hair of as big as a pen tip the problem is that the coil is now vibrating which is causing the high pitch sound and sound be quite easy to identify with a good ear!

sometimes these can be sorted with a quick bit of solder to hold it in place on the main bord of where the coil is, but some times there is no cure due to very small braiding of the copper wire any attempt to solder may cause damage and breakage,

You may be able to replace the coil with another one from a good components store with the same value best thing is to take out the noisy coil and take it down to be replaced

the reason it appears worse when first turn one is that the coil is cold and vibrates alot more just like when the set is warm the coil expands like most metals do which stops it vibrating so much

i hope this helps a little good luck

High pitch noise is coming from Color Wheel, installed in light engine next to lamp.
Color Wheel is available in Part Store and if you familiar with TV repair, can do it yourself or ask help of TV tech to fix it.
Thanks.

I have a samsung neo 32 inch picture tube tv. When I turn it on there is no picture or sound, but there is a light high pitched noise.

That high pitched sound is likely the Horizontal Output section trying to work. It operates at 15,750 Hz or at the upper end of normal human ears.
It will sound like a high pitched whine.

This is a section or your television that you don't want to fool with unless you are quite familiar with servicing your set. There are very high voltages involved and only a qualified technician should tend to this defect. It maybe easy to fix or it may be quite involved. Get an estimate first then decide to go further or not. There is a potential fire hazard here so don't operate your set until this is resolved.

High pitch noise from the flyback

You can tell to some extent what it may be by listening carefully and trying to identify the location. If you, remove the back cover of the set; stay away from danger, just listen to where it seems like the sound is coming from. If it is coming from inside the high voltage cage it is the flyback. If coming from around the main power transformer it is one of the power supply parts.

High pitched rattling not associated with TV audio

Quite possibly the HVT arcing, which will eventually fail.

The problem with them arcing is they can be doing damage to other components.

Best to have it checked by an experienced tech.

Weird noise over everything

According to the Samsung website: "The high pitched sound you hear is probably coming from the flyback transformer. The flyback transformer converts the relatively low voltage electricity that comes from the outlet in your home to the high voltage electricity needed to drive the cathode ray tube in your TV. It is not unusual for a flyback transformer to buzz softly when it operates. However, if the sound is loud and high pitched, it probably means the transformer is failing. To eliminate the sound, you will have to get your TV serviced."

In this model the horizontal drive coil vibrates and makes a high pitch squeal. Most times it is intermitent. Touching on the coil with something (non electrical, like wood) will make it stop or change it's pitch. The fix my shop uses: It's not to technical, but, we put fingernail polish around the coil. It's a remedy I've used for decades and has always worked. Some shops use a hot glue gun. With the back open you can hear the coil to locate it. When fixing the problem have the set unplugged. When a technician is working on a television while it's plugged in. He uses only one hand and stays away from the high voltage.

Samsung txc2515 lost picture makes high pitched noise

Sorry mark that high pitched noise is an indication that the switching power supply has an overload on the outputs. It could be a shorted Horizontal output transformer or transistor or a combo of both. Also could be a shorted vertical driver or output device or could also be a simple cap opened up and is causing a really large current flow BUT if your not a tech i advise you not to tamper with or open the set as you will not "see' a problem or "look" at the open set and find anything wrong! these sets are not user serviceable and can cause you great harm.. So please if the set is this old its probably not worth investing any cash into the repair unless of course it has personal meaning to ya. its up to you to decide Good Luck
