My lens started to come out when switched on in picture-taking mode, but stuck halfway. E18 comes up in corner and camera won't do anything else.

Canon PowerShot A510 error code E18. What does it mean?

Canon E18 error happens when the lens gets stuck while trying to extend. The problem usually happens because dirt or sand get into the lens mechanism. If your camera is still under warranty, the best thing you can do is to take it to the nearest official Canon repair shop and Canon should fix it for free.

E18 screen msg

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Don't want to get your hopes up too high, but here are some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for about 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

Canon e18 error

error code e18 means that the focus motor gears a jammed, dirt or grain of sand in them. you can try to fix it by gently banging the camera on somthing soft, their are also instructions on web on how to disasemble and fix this fault. BUT unless you have some skills, the right tools and conditions i would not attempt it. leave it to the experts. their are several flat cables, without actually seeing I cant tell you
