Question about Nakajima AE-740 Typewriter

AE 740 types different characters than typed on keyboard

The pitch selector is on 10, keyboard is on KB I, I tried KB II with same problem-any reset or maybe a board gone?

Make sure your printwheel is latched securely, turn off t/w, press and hold the margin release button while turning power on to do a reset/self-test. if characters are not right on self test, then you might have a problem with either the carriage or main board.

Check the pitch selection switch in thr L. side of the keyboard it may be in PS which will do this.

When i try to type the typewriter is punching in different letters than the ones I pressed. How do I fix that?


Check the pitch selector switch.(L. side of keyboard) It should be in 10 or 12 not in PS, slide it up and down a few times they do get dirty.

My typewriter keys are not printing what I've typed. How do I reset the keyboard?


The most likely is that the pitch selector slide switch is in PS move it to 10 or 12. If it's in 10 or 12 dlide it up and down a few times the do get dirty.

My AE-740 is typing in a different language and I don't know how to change it back.


There is a slide switch on the L. side of the keyboard it should be in 10 or 12 not PS.

When you try and type all Caps it types anything but the key you hit


Check to see if the pitch selector is in PS this will cause wrong printing. You might also check to see if you are in KB ii Code 5

Nakajima AE830 is not typing the correct letter


Although there was not visible problem or damage - we found that replacing the print wheel resolved our problem.

Check to see if the pitch is in proportional space (PS) this will select wring letters.
