Question about MSI K8N Neo4-F Motherboard

4 red led's

K8N Neo was working fine. Had some glitches with the USB ports no biggie. No the system will not post at all..hard drive runs fine on another machine. 4 Red Led's at the back of the board? I assume this is not a good sign. Any thoughts?

This sounds like a corrupt BIOS, or another issue with the northbridge. It's possible the motherboard was cooked by your power supply, I've had it happen. You will probably be able to use all of your parts in your computer, but you'll more then likely have to replace your motherboard, and maybe processor. The harddrive, video card, and other parts should be fine.

Both my desktop and laptop computers do not recognize my Signature mini external hard drive. I've replaced the cable. No difference. The ports work fine because they work with my printer. I have...

External hard drives of this type are mainly composed of a USB-to-SATA interface & a 2.5" SATA hard drive. If any of these components is defective, then you won't be able to access your data.
So, basically we have 2 possibilities:
1. A failing USB-to-SATA interface. You can test this possibility by disassembling the device, taking the hard drive out, & testing the hard drive in your desktop computer using a 2.5" to 3.5" SATA adapter. If the hard drive works fine, then the problem lies within the USB-to-SATA interface.
3. In the previous step, if the hard drive could not be detected by your desktop computer or is not working properly, then it is the failing part.

The hard drive is flashing red and blue. Is it done?

Hi,

Even though it is possible that your USB hard driveis corrupt, but

before you finally conclude, try out these few troubleshooting

steps.

First of all, it is possible that the USB port that you are using is a

USB 1.0 port, which has a lower voltage not enough to

power on your Storage drive.

In this case, there are two things you can do,

1. Change the USB port you are using for the storage drive to a

USB 2.0 one (Just keep Checking all the ports one by one in case

you dont know which one it is).

2. If your Storage drive has external power facility, just plug it in

an external power first, before connecting it to the system.

If there are no USB 2.0 Ports on your system at all,

then just go to any electronic store and tell them you want to buy

a USB 2.0 Expansion card.

and if it is a laptop, A USB 2.0 PCMCIA card.

Install it on your system, and connect your external drive through it.

Meanwhile, before you try out the second option, test the drive on

a friend's system, that you are sure has a very good system, with

USB 2.0 port.

If after trying out all these, the USB Drive still doesn't work, then

I'm afraid, the drive might have been bad/spoilt.

Kindly keep me posted about the problem and let me know how it

goes

Hope this helps you out.

Thank you for using Fixya

Goodluck

First make sure there are no loose cabling/glitches.
Does the drive spin up?
- check power cable
1. connect the drive to another port
- port may be broken
2. connect another drive instead
- drive may be broken
