I have a problem getting power. I replaced the battery and cleaned all the connectors. Checked the fuses. No power at all to the car. Nothing works lights, radio, ect.

need to know the year, but you either have a fusable link that is burned or you have a large 40 to 60 amp fuse that is blown - the fusable link will be in the wiring harness coming off the positive side of the battery - the bad one will look like the insulation around the wire is burned or melted - to replace it, it should have connectors to disconnect the burned link and plug in a new one - if no connectors than you will need to solder in a new link with can be purchased in rolls at auto supply stores - if it is a fuse, it will be the largest fuse in the fuse box or a strip of copper or aluminum that has melted and you will need to replace it - good luck and have a nice day :O)

Any way of knowing what boards are blown after a surge?

You need an ohm meter. Or take the boards out and inspect them for burn spots or on the bottom of the board look for a white dust area, this is an indicator of something has burned or blown. Also look for bad resistors, capacitors, and fuses.

Burned out the fuse for the cigarette lighter in my 2002 ford focus se i dont have the manual and need to know which fuse to replace

Should be a blade type fuse. You can just pull the fuses and take a look at them.

You can also download a manual from here

Found fuse burned-out. Have not replaced fused but does burn-smell can be from the fuse and non others ?

Typically fuses are made from a specific material which will burn in half just above the rated current. The material is enclosed in either a glass tube, ceramic tube or epoxy tube. I have seen many fuses blow and blown and never smelled anything. They are designed to go quickly and not give off anything. More likely you are smelling the burned component. Could be a bad electrolytic capacitor or more likely a bad output transistor. Check all the capacitors (the ones that I am talking about look like little cans) to see if any are bulging or have exploded or have liquid ozing out of them. If nothing is visible I would check to see if any output transistors are shorted with a DMM. It will be one or the other. If you need more specifics on how to do the testing or any questions let me know.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I was driving down the road when all of the sudden i smell burning plastic.I pulled over turned my radio down stepped out popped the hood .I didn;t see any problems i cranked my car and my radio was dead...

arent you still under warranty?! check the positive terminal of the battery(common gm issue). check the wiring at the starter motor and look for burned wires. if there is consider the warranty. BY THE WAY, IF YOU HAVE HEAVY SMOKE AGAIN, DO NOT "POP" THE HOOD! IT CAN CAUSE AN AIR FEED AND POSSIBLY IGNITE A FIRE IN YOUR FACE. ive put out car fires in iraq. its not fun getting or treating people for burns. let me know if you need further assistance. cheers

1998 nissan maxima fuse location

bacon79: inside the car, in front of your left knee in the fuse block you are interested in looking at.
Remove the cover. You will see 3 rows of "ATO" type fuses arranged in a vertical fashion.
Often they will put a number to the right of the fuse.
In your specific case, you are interested in the center row of fuses.
Look at the top fuse which should be a 7.5 amp and the number next to it should be "26". Anyway, if you remove this fuse and look through it, it will either be burned through the center, have a hairline crack, or be solid. If it is the later and the dome light doesn't work, let me know and I'll see if I can help you.

Look under where your left foot goes on the drivers side with a flashlight (even in the daytime). You will see a black plastic box that says "fuses". Go to the library and photocopy the info you need about the fuse box, so you'll know which fuse to look at. There are a lot of them in there, and only take them out one at a time, so you don't mix them up. Good Luck!

Burn fuses

Something inside is short-circuited. All components look fine thans to burned fuse. Don't try it anymore with new fuses. You need to get a repairman to check it out.
