Cannot reinstall Windows on my Hp Compaq nc6000

My Laptop Hp compaq nc6000 is giving me some problems and I wanted to format it, but there's no way be which I can get to configure the BIOS to boot from CD in order to format it, I also tried installing the Windows through the CD, but it gives me this "Setup Information file D:\i386\COMPDATA\NTCOMPAT.INF is invalid" error each time. Please what can I do to successfully format/reinstall my Laptop's Windows to XP servoce pack 2

Yes I tried that, but there was no option of selecting the CD Rom as the first boot Device, so there's no way by which it can boot to CD.
THanks for your response, I'm looking forward for further help and advices. Thanks once again

I can get into my bios menu but cannot find where to set the bios to boot from my cd. There isn't an option in the boot options menu anywhere. I have a nc6000 running windows 2000 and want to change the os to xp

I know I just had the same problem today...when getting into the bios...try using a "multi-bay" boot and have the cd booted first then the hd...That's the only way mine worked to "trick" the system to boot from the took a few times of stalling after that but with frustration and regathering with patience, it finally might have problems with the devices not being recognized after it does load unless you have an easy driver set to install from cd...otherwise you might have to manually install them to make them operate correctly. *hint: using the device manager to see any '?s' and reinstall drivers helped me*

Are you able to use F10 at the bios in order to get into the Boot menu? If appears that you probably need to reformat or redo your partitiions and then reinstall. I assume that you are booting from a xp sp2 cd or are you trying to boot from the HP reinstall disk?

How to reformat my nc6000 using my os cd?

The NC6000 sometimes has trouble booting to anything other than the primary hard drive once a valid OS has been installed. If you need to reinstall by booting it USB or to a CD/DVD; this works for me as a last resort. (Especially USB which it officially isn't supposed to be able to do.)

Insert the bootable media. Shut the laptop down. Remove the hard drive - but leave it disconnected in the bay. Start the machine, let it detect the bootable device, then hot-plug the hard drive. There is some timing involved, but it works.

I loaded several NC6000 machines running Windows 2000 to Linux and XP this way.
