Question about Ferrari Acer 5000 PC Notebook

1 Answer

Upgrade to 4GB, network shows unplugged!

When I bought my laptop acer ferrari 5000 with 2GB memory, I didn't experience any problem. but when I upgrade it to 4GB the lan network always shows unplugged and I cannot connect it to anything, I tried so many ways to solve this but the only way was to remove one of the rams (so it will have 2GB again) then everything goes fine. I think it has something to do with the bios. but my laptop has the latest bios update!

I'm not sure what to do.

thank you for your response, and I also think this laptop is great too.

I bought two kingston pc2-5300 (KAC-MEMF/2G), accourding to kingston website, they made this for the ferrari 5000, and I bought it because of that.

I used cpu-z to check, and also kingston website, but I couldn't find whether it is SoDimm or dual channel.

I just finished testing the sticks one by one and they both fine, any idea what to do?

Are you sure that your computer can even hold 4GB of memory? The reason that I ask is because it says that the 5000 can hold 4GB but only run 3.

Yepp, it supports 4GB ram, i have a Ferrari myself:) and i have 4GB ram in it whit no problems at all.

Are you sure you bough the right memory-stick for your acer?
It requires two SoDimm DDR2 667mgz dual channel supported sticks. Make sure that u using those ones, otherway it wont work.

  • Capacity: 2GB x 1
  • Target Use: Notebook
  • Type: DDR2 667 (PC2-5300) So-Dimm (200-Pin)

  • Thats the spec i found about those sticks, they seems to be good for the ferrari.

Maybe one of the sticks isent OK, try to run the free program Memtest, you can download it from here

    http://www.memtest.org/

That will at least give you the answer if both stick ar OK, test them one by one if possible. The program is easy to run, just follow the instructions how to use it. It takes about 30-45 minutes to test eatch stick.

    Good luck to you M8!

You can add 1GB of ram but that's it. Definately not a 2GB Stick or 4GB stick.

General two options:

1. Look at bottom of laptop and notice the memory icon. You will need to unscrew the panel to upgrade memory.

2. Memory is under keyboard in which you will have to remove keyboard to upgrade memory.

I just purchased a new Acer Aspire AS7741G-6426 Laptop. I want to upgrade from 4GB memory to 8GB memory. I need to know what brand and specs to look for.

Just refer to your laptop manual. If your manual got lost go to the  acer website and find your product and download the manual.http://www.acer.com.ph/ac/en/PH/content/home .

when upgrading your memory you have to consider the following:

the processor: if your processor has 4gb compatibility mem you can upgrade upto 6 to 8gb.

take note that you must not exceed to 8gb or else your processor might be damage.

get the processor speed: example core 2 i3 processor, 1.0GHZ-the frequency.

the Memory or RAM(random access memory): get ther specification: example is DDR1 or DDR3

PC133 or PC 400. Thats all.

Note: your current memory must have the same memory module(example PC400,PC 133)  or else it wont work.if your going to upgrade your current 4gb PC400 you have to add 4gb memory in PC400 module also.

Acer Aspire 5601 4GB memory upgrade problem

Acer systems are picky about the type of memory you use.
What is your RAM Speed on the old chips compaired to the new chip

You may have to reorder the same type of speed memory

Try this website it will tell you what will work with your system

Problem with upgrading my acer extensa 5620z memory to 4GB

Hi there.
I recommend you get another stick of SODIMM to replace what seems to be the faulty stick.
If you are using XP or Vista X86 (32bit) then the system will only recognize 2.8 - 3GB of memory, only 64bit operating systems recognize the full 4GB.

Good luck ad thanks for using FixYa!!
