1 Answer

My notebook is completely blank. No response.

I use a Toshiba M65-S608 notebook.I have Windows XP Home Edition on it.I also have McAfee anti-virus installed.I left the computer unattended while scanning files with the anti-virus. My Windows auto-updates came up while scanning was still in progress and restarted the computer. Since then my notebook has been blank. When I power it up, it comes on and, stays on until the battery runs out. The screen is blank and the system does not respond to anything.....HELP!!!!!

Try reseating the memory in your laptop. If this doesn't work then take out the battery and only hook up your AC adaptor to turn on the laptop. If neither of these work then your motherboard is bad.

Can you add your McAfee to the notebook or is it for only one PC? Although isolated, it still must send/receive radio waves to collect the data, and WiFi are not known for their security compared to Ethernet. If I were in your position, it would be worthwhile for the extra protection. It may never happen to be hacked by someone wandering by, but if you rely on that bandwidth, you certainly don't want it stolen.

I am having trouble downloading some new virus software (McAfee). I have bought a new product from them and and trying to download it direct from the website. I have turned off Firewall, pop-up blocker etc...

Hi,
I believe that there is an old anti virus on your system so you need to follow this...
1. Download the Norton Removal Tool, to your desktop (do NOT Run it yet.)
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...3108162039
2. Disconnect from the internet and close all programs, and REBOOT.
3. Uninstall Norton with Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs.
4. IMMEDIATELY enable the Windows Firewall!
5. Double-click on the file you saved in #1 above to run the utility. Do
NOT touch your keyboard until the run has completed, then REBOOT (again).
6. Install better antivirus, such as Eset's NOD32, Kaspersky or Avast!

You mentioned you were using XP Home edition. What Service Pack? SP3?

You did not mention HOW you connect to the internet? dialup?

Is your computer part of a local network?

Important: Download MBAM, update, and run the FULL scan:

I would say you to use Mcafee. Norton is good but slow down the system a lot.

Go to the McAfee website and download their McAfee removal tool. By running this you will completely remove all of your McAfee software. You will then be able to install your Kapresky anti-virus.

You will probably have to go to the store and pick up an anti virus program such as Norton or McAfee.

Unless you can download one.
