Disconnect the Camera from the USB port and reinstall the CD or Downloaded software program. When the program asks you to connect the camera to the USB port, do so and it should work.
Then to use it on the Web, do this.
Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.
A. Skype Setup:
After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/ ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.
The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.
B. Yahoo Setup:
After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:
  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.
C. Windows Live Messenger:
  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: Your audio and video should work. Enjoy.
When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.

If you are able to hear audio with a music CD or any other application, then you must un-install the software for the camera, reboot and then reinstall.

If you are unable to hear any sound, then your audio driver may have been knocked out by the camera installation. To reinstall, go to manufacturer of computer's website, click on support, enter model number and choose operating system. The page that follows will allow you to download, free, the audio driver. Restart the computer and see if this helps.

I have the vx-3000. My contacts cannot see me using SKYPE. Is this lifecam compatible with SKYPE?

When using Skype let the skype software do all the work - do not preview your image by using the Lifecam software

Microsoft Lifecam VX-3000-unknown video error on Skype

I tried the skype link given in Solution #1.

None of Skype's suggestions helped.

The problem child: Windows 7 (all updated) and current Skype.

I installed DirectX per Skype's suggestion.

Also found this link to MicroSoft driver for W7:

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/DownloadResult.aspx?category=ICE&type=LifeCam&name=68A-00001&os=Win7_3264&lang=en

It's working at the moment. But the camera was working previously with this setup. Time will tell.

My video freezes about every 20 seconds i have to keep restarting

Could be a bandwith issue, but also try reinstalling Skype.
Sometimes downgrading to an older Skype version can also help.

I am new to using a web cam. I purchased the VX6000 and everything is working, however, the people I talk to on it only see static pictures of me (Skype).

I think what they are seeing is the photo you took with your webcam when you set up your account.
Make sure your webcam is is working OK and then check your settings

  1. Start Skype.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Audio Settings.
  4. Select your LifeCam device as the default microphone. For example, select Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000.
  5. In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Video Settings.
  6. Select your LifeCam device as the default Webcam. For example, select Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Test LifeCam by making a Skype test call.

No image from my Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000

Uninstall the software.
Restart the computer and see if the camera is found.
If camera is found.
Reinstall the software.

Another might be that the usb plug was not pushed right in.
