TV was playing, then the screen turned black.

For 4 weeks, my Insignia TV was playing great. Then the screen turned black. When I tried to turn it back on again, the blue light came on, but the screen is, still, black. When I pressed the remote again, the red light flashed 5 times but no screenMIne is kind of doing the same thing, we've had it for over 2 years and all of the sudden it just wont turn on. the blue light on the logo is flashing red.

It seems that there is a problem of short circuit in your TV. Better you get a full diagnosis from a repair center…before trash it.
Thanks

It still repairable. better for you to call for a authorized service engineer for that to avoid any further damaged to the unit and injuries.

Replace the three 680uf at 35 volt caps at the top left of the power supply board.
They are about $1 each.
You will see they are swollen and may be popped.
You'll spend $3 to repair your TV.
Good Luck!!

If you're going to trash it - ship it to me :D

If the caps appear good - the final check before deep 6-ing it is the transformer. Unfortunately Insignia is for sh1t as far as servicing - so you will need the part # off the transformer to search for a replacement.

Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is apprecited!!

If your tv has had a static shock any one of the components inside if not all could be malfunctioning. I would call best buy and ask them and if it is still under warranty get a replacement you should not need a receipt if you lost it as best buy is the only one that sells that brand.

Your best bet is to get a new one as a repair on this could be expensive and will need to be done by a service technician. You could also call best buy I believe there geek squad would know what the red light blinking 5 times would mean as that usually is an indication of the problem.

Hi
hard reset- unplugging tv for about 5-10 minutes and see if that clears up the problem. Because they have microprocessors in them (computer chips) and just as like with any other operating system, they can hang up or crash. Unplugging it for awhile resets the microprocessor .

Change input device to some other which you know works for sure. If problem persists, try changing the channel. If you notice same problem, this may need attention by a qualified service technician.

Ihave a insignia ns-lcd47hd-09 tv. when i press the power button the light turns blue but no picture comes on only black screen.

I think your insignia is set for SHOP mode instead of HOME mode. I changed mine to HOME and it's working fine now. Press your menu button and then scroll down to setup. You're looking for Plug and PLay which should be the very first choice. If it's greyed out as mine was you'll have to change your imput from HDMI to TV in order to get to the P&P. Once you're in the Plug and Play your first choice is language. The second should be SHOP or HOME. Make sure to select HOME. You can skip scanning for channels. This fixed my problem with the blue light. The store uses SHOP so if someone plays around and changes something, all they have to do is shut off the TV and turn it back on. Please let me know if this works.

Generally, problems like this require repairs to resolve. You may carry the TV in to the place of purchase to pursue service options.

If a problem like this should develop within the retailer's return period, it is recommended that the TV be returned for an exchange.

Insignia ns-lcd42hd screen flutters

This television is having trouble with sync circuits. It probably has some component adding erratic noise voltage to the circuit causing the instability in the sync lock circuits. The solution is to locate the bad component with an oscilloscope by following the signal path with oscilloscope probe until you find the irregular signal and then replace the part. This part could be either capacitors or ringing resistors. It may also be a component in you solid state signal processor. You should have it tested in a service center and see if they can locate the bad components. Then see if it worth replacing with the cost of parts and labor. Hope this helps you with your problem.

TV was playing, then the screen turned black.

If the screen is black and you have sound then lightly press and shine a strong flashlight against the screen. If you see an image around the edge of the flashlight, an image is being 'displayed'. The problem is probably in the Inverter/CCFT or the power going to the Inverter.

My 26 inch insignia has sound but black picture

Hi freelingtrapt,
I am happy to help, we need to check the backlight inverter.
  1. Turn tv on and get to a point that you have audio.
  2. Take a flashlight and shine it on the screen.
  3. Look very closely at the screen for a very dark video image.
If you see an image you have a bad inverter, you should be able to replace it yourself. I can walk you through in chat. Let me know your findings. Lone99star
