Question about Sony DVP-CX995V Multi-disc DVD Player

1 Answer

Carousel out of alignment

I purchased my CX995V a few weeks ago and it's my second of the kind. Evidently during shipping it was roughed up and the carousel is just out of alignment enough to make disc loading and unloading virtually impossiable into the disc reader. I purchased it on ebay from a person and I contacted him and he said he never had a problem like that. As with ebay, all sales are as is which I understand so I'm stuck for now. I've taken the top cover off but cant see a manual adjust for the carousel. Does anyone know how I could manually adjust the carousel to get it back into alignment? Thanks

James

Instructions are in the service manual to do the pop-up and table sensor adjustment but when the mechanism starts to grab a disc it has already locked onto to a slot. I don't think it possible with the lockpins on the turntable to get stuck between two slots the spacing is just to tight.

Sony DVP-CX995V Test Mode

Thought I could add a few suggestions for anyone else experiencing this issue.
1.The SLIDER AT THE TOP OF THE REMOTE MUST be in the DVD Position. The sequence will not work if remote slider is in Disc explorer mode or TV mode. It doesn't specify this in the service manual either.
2. Sometimes it just doesn't work the first couple times, so keep trying. For best results, do the sequence from about 5 feet away, pointing the remote at the receiver on the player (lower left), and slowly and firmly press each button, pausing 1/2 to 1 second between each button press works best for me.
3. Also, it could just be low batteries in the remote and If it still doesn't work and it is worth putting more $$ into try a new remote as suggested already.
Just my 2 cents probably worth noting for future visitors to this question.

I was told by one of your representative that a tuner for my TV, Model TLAE-01912 was supposed to be ship to HAGOPIAN TELEVISION CENTRE LTD at 864 MERIVALE RD, OTTAWA, ON, K1Z 5Z6. Telephone number:613...

First, let me apologize for brenda. Some people can't help being jerks.

Second, no one at FixYa ever told you to ship anything anywhere. You need to contact the company to whom you shipped the tuner. FixYa cannot give you the status on an item you shipped to another company.

Sony dvd player DVPCX995VMakes grinding noise and door won't open

I was able to fix this myself, however, I did get instructions from Sony that may or may not work. My solution was:
Unplug the unit and carefully (so the disks don't shift) move to a location where it can be easily worked on.
Remove the 9 screws holding the cover on. 2 on top, 2 on each side, and 3 at the back, along the top edge.
Carefully, may need some wiggly remove the cover. There are some rubber pads at the front of the unit that hinder the cover from sliding. Slightly wiggling and pulling to the rear will dislodge it.
Confirm all disks are properly aligned on the carousel.
Pull out any disks that are askew. They will be replaced later in the same way disks are added, through the door.
Look in the rear where the laser unit is.
Carefully slide out disks near the laser. You'll have to move some in order to tip others out.
By taking out 6-10 disks, you'll probably find there's one partially lodged in the laser unit. With adjacent disks removed you can slide the "stuck" disk out.
Plug in the unit and test to see if the grinding stopped.
Unplug the cord.
Replace the cover with the 9 screws. Some wiggly and pushing forward is needed to reseat the cover at the front.
Carefully move the unit back to where it was.
Replace cables and plug in.
Return the disks removed according to the instructions.
This took me about 15 minutes from start to finish.

The following was provided by Sony. I don't know if this works as I had fixed it before Sony responded.
IMPORTANT: If model-specific information is required to complete any of the steps in this solution, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
  1. Ensure the child lock feature is disabled.
  2. Attempt to open the disc tray.
  3. If the issue is not resolved, turn off the DVD player.
  4. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet for 30 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
  6. Attempt to open the disc tray.
  7. If the disc tray still does not open, simultaneously press the POWER + STOP + EJECT buttons.
  8. If the disc tray still does not open, simultaneously press the DISC1 + STOP + EJECT buttons. NOTE: This step may not apply to all models. DISC1 is not available on all DVD players.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required. The Sony® eService Web site at http://eservice.sony.com/ can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer.

Same problem - carousel won't turn

Take the cover off of DVD player and get a Qtip and alcholol. Clean the head glass thing that reads the DVD and it will work fine. Just be gentle. This has happened a few times and works great. It is just dirty.

You might get away with just using the Qtip if you dont have cleaning alcholol.

IT WILL WORK.

Sony CX995v "Cannot Play" message on DVDs but plays CDs O.K.

Hi...
The laser goes thru a different lens arraignment for DVDs.
Take it to a TV shop and have them "blow out" the laser assembly with some CO2 and clean the lens.

My Sony DVP-cx995v stopped playing DVD's

I had the same "Cannot play" problem - happened suddenly, I don't think I was doing anything unruly at the time.

After checking repair (exchange) prices in excess of $250 from Sony, I decided to open the cover to see if I could see anything wrong - normally a futile exercise with electronics except that in the past I have cleared errant disks that have lodged themselves near the drive/player at the rear of the library.

Upon opening and watching the library try to load and play I noticed the drive itself was not spinning the disk once loaded. It would sit for awhile, thinking about it I'm sure, then would unload and load the next dvd, again failing to spin.

I thought okay, maybe try to spin the dvd while in the player to see if it's jammed or otherwise hard to turn. It was not hard to turn and spun freely. In fact, when I put my finger through the hole at the exposed side of the player at the hub to spin the dvd, clockwise, it suddenly started to spin - and play!

I put the whole thing back together to test and all seems to be working fine at this point. Not sure what would cause the motor to stop spinning and remain in that state through poweroff/on cycles etc. but I'm sure this is not the last time I will have trouble of this kind.

I would note that when replacing the library back in its home on the shelf, be careful not to tip the library, especially toward the player area because the disks will spill out of the carousel near the player and become jammed when you power it on and attempt to load. A final tip of the library away from the player area may clear this if you hear the disks rolling out of their slots and you don't want to open the top again (it's a darned heavy box when fully loaded).

Good luck!

DV-C302D - Carousel not opening

First. Unplug the DVD for 30 seconds, plug back in and turn set on, sometimes it helps. Second, some CDs may have some rough spots around the inner and outer edges. If your DVD has it, this unit may reject the CD. To remove these rough spots, rub the edges with a pencil or ball-point pen, etc.
