This is not a problem that a "reset" will resolve. There is a problem with the convergence circuit. It may be as simple as poor solder connections on the convergence ICs. If you can solder, you can fix this yourself. Please let me know if you wish to attempt the repair and I'll supply additional details and instructions.

OK. First locate the convergence ICs. These are large black ICs attached to a heatsink and will be marked STKxxx. Resolder the pins on these ICs and see if that resolves the problem (often it does!). IF not, then replace the ICs with new ones. There may be low valued resistors in that area that are defective as well. Look for those as well as some fuses that are in-line with the pins of the STKs. Quite often when the ICs go bad, the surrounding fuses or resistors get smoked. Please note that the TV will have potentially dangerous high voltages present even when unplugged, so be careful.

    Keep me posted.

HITACHI PROJECTION TV HAS WAVEY LINES ON IT THEN SCREAN GOES BLACK

Hi!
That's a clear indication that you have a bad power supply in your TV.
If you know how to DiY...I suggest you open your TV. Locate the power supply section, it is where the end of the power plug is connected. Replace all blown or bulge or leaked capacitors with same value. That will fix your TV problem.
The hardest part is to disassembling your TV cover, cause you will need to pry off the snap in lock at the edge of your TV.

Power supply board should look like this. Examine the capacitors in the board
power%281%29.jpg2_23_2012_11_31_16_am.png

After replacing blown capacitors...it should work again.
caps%281%29%281%29.jpg

Things you will need.
1. A plastic flat end screw or any object with flat ends....to fry off the cover
2. Soldering iron.
3. Soldering lead
4. Soldering pump.
5. Flat and Philip Screw
6. Replacement capacitors (of same value with the blown one) that you can buy to any electronics store.

Hope it helps

Try first unplugging the power cord for fifteen or twenty minutes , see if this can reset and fix the problem.

I have a Mitsubishi WS-65869 65 in. Rear Projection Television and it has created a wavey line and has distorted the image. i have a picture of it i can send. Any help. i can send pictures of screen.

If you see separation of colors (red, green) in this wavey line most likely you have problem with convergence circuit. Two convergence amps have to be replaced. They located in a middle of the TV boards attached to big aluminum radiator and they part number starts with letters "STK".
I would recommend to let professional with this repair. Should cost you about $250-$300.
Regards.
Russ.

Blue and red wavey lines and distorted picture

Projection TV2_bing.gif sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung2_bing.gif, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith2_bing.gif, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D2_bing.gif
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash2_bing.gif focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

Wavey color lines at bottom of picture. Crackling noises coming from back bad picture

Howdy;
The "crackling noises" from the back is causing the picture to distort. 1) Either locate source of "noise" and correct or 2) Call a Service Company and get corrected. I would recommend that you DO NOT USE TV until this corrected. It may cause a fire inside your TV.

Good Luck, Big Irish.
