Can you look in your device manager and see if there is a sound driver in your computer or not. It could be that the sound driver is disabled, not installed or bad. First you need to see what device manager says and try and update it.

The battery died when the power adaptor was plugged in. The light to show the battery was being charged was not lit but the light on the power supply was. I am guessing its the battery. I have had some...

Just check the Battery diagnostics if you have the software installed...If it is there then it will be in Start - Help & Support - Troubleshotting Tools - Battery Check.......If it shows the battery needs to be replaced contact Packard Bell...Since you told me that the A/C Adapter is not functioning and after you wiggled the lead it started functioning then if the battery test passes you will have to ask for a new A/C Adapter...

Packard bell easynote M5255 will not play sound

you can try and uninstall the sound driver then restart the computer windows should detect it and reinstall the driver(you might want to download the driver and save it just in case windows can't find the driver).

Packard Bell Easynote M5255 - Will not boot up

option f2, go into bios setup and see if the hard drive is listed or detected. Auto detect hard drive save and exit. System will reboot if the same error occurs then the hard drive master boot record is probably corrupt or the hard drive has totally failed.
