RAds don't get hot anymore

RAdiators don't get hot anymore. All radiators bled. All radiators shut off and turned on one by one to see if it is one radiator. Both pipes(in and outlet) on each radiator are slightly warm. All rads bar 1 have TRV's (no main thermastat). Turn heating on via boiler, rads get luke warm but thats it. Boiler kicks in for approx 45 secs then turns off. This repeats constantly
. Boiler is SIME and pressure needs upping daily.
I had one leak but this appeares to have ceased now.

Thanks for that , there is a leak (outlet pipe drips but not loads), it must have been for a while though cos the paint on the brickwork is coming off under the pipe outside. If it is the expansion valve can I fix it or will i need to call someone??? Will it be expensive???

p.s. the rads up until a few months ago used to get 'very' hot as I used to keep the one in my little girls room turned down because of this...

Rads not heating could be down to old system ie pipework etc and sludge building up. r there any cold spots on rads? when boiler turning off do u mean going to reset? if so could be over heat prob at boiler . there should be a pressure pipe coming from boiler going to outside if its a combi. if this is leaking your expansion vessel might need re charged as this is where the water will be going.

Temp is running hot..put water in still does it..radiator and water pump have been replaced in the last year..see no leaks

what is the problem do you have hot water ,have you bled the rads.
it could be an airlock,if you have not bled the rads turn off system and bleed the one at the end faraway ,then bleed all the way up making sure pressure is up you need to have that.

My boiler is losing pressure every day. Any ideas please.

Hi,If you have blead all the air out of the rads and there is no leaks from the rads and the boiler, then perhaps an exspantion valve or maybe the the pipe work,if under the floor a presure test is neaded.

You either have a bad circulating pump or you have air in the system. A little bit of air can completely stop water flow in a boiler system. Your problem is more than likely air though. Each radiator should have an air bleed on it. Turn your boiler completely off. Go to each radiator and open the air bleed. It will be located towards the top of the radiator. After air is bled out, close the air bleed and go to the next one until all have been done. If you have a two story house, start at the lowest level of radiators. When you are finished start the boiler back up and let it run for about 2 to 3 minutes and shut it back down and bleed all the radiators again. If you are making progress and getting more to heat up but not all of them yet, keep repeating process until all of them heat up.

I have hot rads upstairs but down stairs 2rads cold the boiler comes on for 2miniuts theh cuts out and starts again

two things. 1 check the air vents on your radiators to make sure they are open to allow the steam in. Where is your thermostat in relation to the working radiators if the thermostat gets satisfied too quickly you won't have time to heat the other radiators. Steam rises and it is normal for upper radiators to get hot a little earlier

Its takeing a long time for some of radiators to get hot,and when they do they dont get that hot ,iv flushed the system out, could it be heating by-pass valve in the wrong position

hi there

start by turning off the rads that are geting hot,do the colder rads now get hot? try banging them gentle with a rubber mallet around the valves and across the rad.

If the rads are upstairs and the boiler below it may be the pump is showing signs of giving up.
is the circuit balanced correctley?

first if you are topping up pressure then you could have a leak or check the pressure relife valve is not passing water, also check the pressure vessal this could have gone, rads radvales or thermostaitc rads valve could be stuck down if thermostaitc try removing the heads and tapping the valve this might free them up ,

Plenty of hot water but no heating Potterton Suprima 50

most likely the radiators need to be bled, there will be a screw at the opposite side of the radiator to the inlet get a small dish and place it under the screw undo the screw a little untill the air escapes and water runs freely from it
if that does not work trace the lines back and see if there are any bleed valves on the lines these may need to be bled as well this can be time consuming

I can only get heating to the radiators upstairs, not downstairs

balance the rads.
upstair radiators turn all valves off, heat will then divert downstairs, open valves upstairs 4 turns on locksheilds and number 4 on trvs if u have any.
then if that does not work get a combi or powerflush.
if u cant afford then drain a little from rads, get x300 sludge remover from plumb shop and put in header tank(not hot water tank).
then fill system up and repeat balancing.

Central heating radiators downstairs take a long time to heat up

Problem is balancing & flow. Turn down the other rads until the inlet [flow] pipe is hot but the outlet [return] is luke warm. The rads have two valves - use the one which has a non-operation cap [just turns without doing anything]. when all the rads are the same temperature the system is said to be balanced and should be left like that using the other valves [with operating cap] to turn them on or off as required
