Question about Intel CMI 8738 6-Channel 5.1 Surround Sound 3D PCI Sound Card (RETAIL BOX) - CM8738

Weird problem with c-media

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Κανονικός πίνακας"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} My card plays some media through media player with no problem, other media (youtube for instance) not at all and the system sounds only for about a second.

My system refuses all driver updates (it stops playing sound when I install anything but the driver from the motherboard cd) and all the tips and suggestion I could find approximating my problem. I have also installed the K-lite codec pack to no avail.

I have even disabled conflicting devices with no result.

System: WIN XP SP3
Audio Driver: CMI8738/C3DX
Everything is reported to be functioning properly.

PS : The Legacy Audio Drivers ->Properties->Properties allegedly displaying Multimedia devices, is empty.

Any ideas?

Windows Media Player C00D11B1 Windows Media Player can't play the file

Windows Media Player and other media players all have their limitations on what format they can handle.
I suggest you download and try other free media players such as the excellent Open Source VLC Media Player:
www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

Good luck and have fun!

ps. You should specify what type of media you are trying to play!

Windows media player 11wont play backtrack line 6marked files

Go to Filehippo.com and download and istall K-Lite Codec Pack 5.90 (Full) it should beef up your windows media player to accommodate most codec's.

If that doesn't do the job, again from filehippo, download and install VLC Media Player.

Both programmes are freeware.

HP Pavilion Dv6 Speakers wont work!

Download the latest drivers from the hp website for your computer.Un-install the present one and reboot your computer.Install the drivers once windows come up.This should take care of it.If not it could be your os.Last thing you should consider is the sound card itself which is built on the motherboard.
Good luck

Try downloading VLC media player. Do a quick Google search for it.
VLC is a free media player and without additional downloads will play almost any format you can throw at it.

Sound tic when playing music

Often disc drives don't realize they have something wrong in them. They tend to wear out very fast and the only signs that they have worn out are functional (problems like yours) and physical (weird noises, etc). Now, this isn't the only possibility, your cables may also be loose, in which case I recommend you open your case and check them. If anything is loose, push it back in. Or maybe your discs are dirty and covered in scratches, make sure you keep all discs as clean as possible (as far as scratches, it's hard to get rid of those).
