LG refrigerator not cooling

The refrigerator section of our 2 year old frost free LG icebeam grs352gca is not cooling. The temperature cannot be adjusted, the LED's show max cooling but it is not cold. All the LEDs are illuminated except for the first LED. The freezer operates 100%. The unit worked for a couple of days after being switched off, but now has returned to the state described above.I have a LG Icebeam GRS392GTA - Fridge/freezer stopped cooling - switched power off - then on again after 1 hour.Both fridge/freezer cooled ok for a couple of days. Freezer still ok but Fridge not cooling - even at 5 stars top setting.No deposited frost on freezer back wall.

Happened during period of extreme humidity - live in Townsville - Wet Season now

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Almost always, your described problem indicates that the fan/blower is not drawing cold air from the freezer section towards the refrigerator section. This could be a faulty fan or the air passage is blocked. In some instances, this cold be the thermostat of the refrigerator section but offhand this would be least likely.

A possible way of testing is to open the fridge door, locate the door switch and press on it while the door is open. The interior light should turn off. After some time, the fan should kicked in. Should it not, then possibilities are:

  • faulty fan (most likely);
  • blocked air passage (likely);
  • thermostat (least likely);
  • faulty fan controller (a possibility).
Pls post back if you are considering a DIY (do-it-yourself). Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Could be your thermostat is defect, but even more likely the compressor is not working correct. Perhaps you even lost the cooling fluid. To be sure, please move everything as quick as you can to another fridge and ask a technician to have a look.

Older (20 to 25 years old) non-frost free Whirlpool refrigerator is not cooling below 60 degrees. I defrosted it and left it off with doors open in garage for 10 hours. Turned the cooler knob to 4...

Good day,
If it is a conventional refrigerator, there should be a cooling plate on the top back of the wall in the food section.
Assuming the door fits and closes properly, and the light goes out when the door closes, the plate described above should have a frost pattern on it. That is what cools the bottom fresh food section.
If left on for plus 12 hours normal cooling should exist.
If the plate is not frosted, and the machine runs constantly, you have a freon leak with no real practical repair possible.
You could recharge it, but it would be pricey, and just repeat the problem shortly.

The freezer on top unit was keeping everything up top nice and cold, but the customer began to notice things in the fresh food section getting a little to warm. When the temperature selectors were adjusted to a colder setting, it seemed to help for a day or two, but then started getting warmer again. Sounding like a defrost problem, I paid this refrigerator a visit with hairdryer in hand, and parts in the van. Frost free refrigerators use a defrost heater to periodically assist with the melting of frost that builds up on the fins of the evaporator located in the freezer section. Frost forms each time the doors are opened to the unit, and the warmer, moist air from outside gets inside and heads toward the cold surface of the evaporator. As the frost continues to collect, the air passages in and around the evaporator start to close up and begin to prevent air circulation by the evaporator fan from the freezer to the fresh food section. As the cycle continues, the temperature in and around the evaporator will be cold, but the fresh food section will get warmer because warm air is not being exchanged with the colder air from above. The defrost sections of most units will consist of the same components. Namely, the heater itself, the bi-metal terminator, and the timer or defrost control. Each one of these components need to work properly for the defrost cycle to properly keep the unit frost free. On this unit, the timer could be advanced to begin a defrost cycle, but there was no current flow to the heater. After checking all connections and doing a quick resistance check of the circuit, I determined the bi-metal terminator had failed open. These bi-metal devices are used to prevent an overheating situation in the freezer section should the heater remain on to long. Once the trip temperature is reached, the bi-metal will open up a set of electrical contacts thus opening the circuit. Then when the unit cools back down to it's reset temperature, the contacts will again close, closing the circuit for the next defrost cycle. Because this bi-metal didn't reset, the circuit remained open and no defrosting took place. After using my trusty hairdryer and warm water squirt bottle to defrost the evaporator, I wired a new defrost terminator in line with the heater. With all the frost removed, the cold air started circulating again, and now everything within the fresh food section stays properly chilled.

The fridge section of my LG GRB218JUDA has stopped working and the temperature indicator reads Err FF. Can you help

Side by side and other refrigerators are controlled or cooled by one system. Look to the freezer side for frost buildup on the back wall of the freezer. Frost buildup on the back wall of the freezer stops the air that cools the refrigerator from circulating. Frost on the back wall indicates a problem in the defrost circuit related to the timing device, heaters or defrost thermostat.

LG icebeam door cooling

Normally the fans get turned off when you open the door so it does not blow all the cold air out. The fans should only run when the doors are closed. Push in the door switch and see if the fan works then (of course it has to be in the middle of a cooling cycle or the fans still won't run).
