How do I turn off the flash on my camera. I want to take a photo at night without the flash going off.

There is a button with the icon of a lightning flash. Press it and watch the screen. When you see a lightning flash with a diagonal line through it, the flash is turned off.

Pictures to dark at night

no there isn,t.but these cameras do not have enough flash to take great pictures at night, for one you cant be to far away, two you have to have a subject in range of the flash, other wise all you get is darkness.but at the most 10ft is the farthest you can go and still get a great shot at dark.also use auto mode when taking pictures, because it adjusts to light-dark etc.i know this because i have the same camera and its awesome, plus im a photo technician and ran a photo lab for 3years selling digital cameras. good luck, hope i helped

I do not exactly know the menu of your photo camera, but on my Olympus there is the left button on the cross button that exists at the back of the camera. By pressing it once while you are in the "Shot" mode, not in "Play" mode you activate it. If you press again you de-activate it. Therefore, as you can understand the operation is toggled by pressing the left button on the cross. You also have an icon which everytime you press the button it "tells" you if the Flash is ON or OFF.

Your camera is set at twilnight mode which has the flash suppressed and you won't be able to turn it on because of the fixed setting of twilnight mode to get the proper result of the picture. Due to the mode setting requirement, a shakey hand icon and no flash icon will show. If you press the flash mode button, it beeps. The twilnight setting has a low shutter speed, i.e. the shutter opens longer to allow more lights in, therefore it shows recording to let you know that the shutter is still open, and any moment of the camera will result in a blurred picture.
Now, check your camera mode dial and turn it back to the 'green' camera and see if you can get the flash to fire.

Olympus Stylus 710- no flash mode

I;ve been on the internet all morning researching the same problem. It appears it's a curcuit related problem with the flash. As of know, haven't got a solution other then buying another camera or taking paictures in manuel mode without flash.

There is quite a few things that could be affecting this. I, personally, own the D50 Nikon model, which has a few issues that you discuss. Here is what you can check: Check to see if it is in Auto or Manual mode. Check to see if you have selected a night time photo selection vs. day time photo selection. Also, check to see if you have selected the close up or scenic. Next, go to the main button area with all those icons on it. Hold down the button on the top of it, and turn the dial to where it faces the flash icon. When you are under there, make sure to set it to Auto. Otherwise, when you are taking a picture you can click on the flash icon incase it has one. Bottom line, you NEED to make sure its set to night mode. That will make sure your lense will absorb or sense that it needs that lighting in order to produce a perfect dark setting picture. If you dont, the shutter will hold until it senses some lighting. Check this out and let us know how it works out for you.

DMC-FX01 Flash Does Not Work

In what mode are you trying to take photos? The flash will not work in certain modes (see the manual), for example the night mode. Or you accidentialy turned on sequential/burst mode (this is mode where camera takes more pictures on one shutter button press). Flash cannot be used in this mode also. I don't have FX01, but on FZ8 the camera will show flash icon in red, but will take the picture anyway without flash being triggered. The second problems seems like enabled power-saving mode, but those 5 seconds are too short for this. But anyway you can check in SETUP menu the settings for power-save. Also maybe the flash is broken and camera noticed it... I don't think this could be a software problem. Either problem with the flash, but more probably just setting of wrong mode.
