Hi,
I have a serious problem attempting to make run an 9401 150 V4R2
(purchased in 1998) and not used the 2 or 3 latest years. So ... I
don't have docs or cables. I have only the Client Access for Windows
V3.1.3 CD-ROM (and the Qsecofr password).
When I force a manual IPL from the Control Panel, I get the error code
A9002000 (I think it means Console missing).
The machine has only ethernet port (#2723 card); but when I try a Ping
from a NT PC to the supposed IP address I don't receive any answer.
Near the fan, the box has two 9-pin female sockets, labelled UPS and
M1. It would be possible to make a serial cable to allow a PC operate
as Console? Where could I obtain the pin signals?
Thanks very much in advance for any help or suggestion,
Angel

was said above here, if you want to use Direct Connect Op Console, you
will need a 2745 and the 97H7557 cable. You must use the above cable,
it's got a proprietary signal implementation, and I don't think that
IBM will be too big on giving you blueprints of the pin signals, but
that's just my guess. You're going to be much better off finding a
2746 (Twinax IOA), an ASCII dumb tube, and some coax cable. Check on
eBay, I've seen some dumb tubes selling for $10-20.

with a 97H7557 cable for the console connection. For the remote control
panel, a 97H7591 cable would also be needed.
The 2721 or 2745 IOA must be installed in the 2nd slot from the bottom,
and the cable then attaches to the leftmost port (as seen from the back).
The control panel cable attaches to the MI port.
This is pictured in any "Operations Console Setup" manual pre-V5R1 (for
example, SC41-5508). The image of the 150 is not included in the V5R1 docs
for obvious reasons.
I'm guessing that a used twinax adapter and dumb tube is going to be a lot
less expensive and probably a lot less of a headache in the long run.

the only possible solution would use Operation Console serial
conected.

the Ping. I think the TCP/IP service is down and not included in the
startup program.

Manual IPL is going to come up into DST where you WILL NOT get any further
without the console. Try doing a "B N" IPL so the OS starts up and then see
if you can ping the ethernet.

able to find the connector for twinax at the back of the machine.
TCP/IP is software and must be started thru commands. If this is not
arranged in the QSTRUP, the AS/400 autoexec.bat, you cannot connect to the
ethernet board.
