If you do not have the drivers for the devices that are installed on your laptop, then download from the IBM/Lenovo WEB site, make sure they are for your model laptop (eg. Video, audio, modem LAN etc.) before you format and reinstall Windows..

Follow these steps.
1. Boot up the laptop and press F12 function key to get a list of boot devices, select the CD drive.
2. Insert your Windows XP CD into the CD drive.
3. Press the space bar to start the bootup from CD
4. During the install process you delete the existing partition/s and create a new partition.
5. The next step is to format the partition - do a NTFS full format not a quick format
6. Follow the instructions to install windows.
7. After Windows completed the installation ,check on which device drivers didn't install and install these drivers.

If you want to install Wndows XP you should format the hard drive in NTFS, it is more file and disk space efficient that FAT32.

If you wish to install Windows 98 or ME then format the hard drive in FAT16 or FAT32 (FAT32 is more file and disk space efficient than FAT16). Windows 98 & ME cannot see a NTFS formatted hard drive.

You can format the hard drive by using a floppy DOS disk created from Windows ME, boot up the laptop with this floppy and run FDISK. his program allows ou to view, delete and create partitions, then you need to reboot agin and then format the hard disk.

Hi, IBM ThinkPad R52 PC (1860-2nu) comes with Infrared and wi-fi however it has no bluetooth. If you want to use bluetooth, you may buy a USB Bluetooth adapter. It can be connected with the laptopvia USB port and works just fine.
Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya! CreativeTECH

I HAVE IBM R52 1860 MODEL LAPTOP, ONE THIN AND ONE BROD WHITE vertical line is coming on screen, while everything is fine on external monitor. give me all trouble shoot options please. thank you, manoj

The most likely cause for this will be that the Diodes that control those pixels have failed, in other words the laptop screen is broken and will need to most likely be replaced. This is a hardware problem not a software issue. As such I advise you check your warranty and if it is still in date contact your warranty providers. If your warranty is not still in date then I advise you take your laptop to your local computer repair shop and get them to check it over.

How do i switch our the NumLock on my keyboard of IBM r52? I want to use the normal keyboard of laptop.

Hi,

Please try to press and hold Fn at the bottom left corner of the keyboard and then Nmlk which is located above the F11, thats how you disabled and enabled the Numlock capability.

Hope this will help... Your response is very much appreciated....

There is not so much that could be done to repair a keyboard. Disassemble the laptop, check the ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard. If the ribbon cable is loose, tighten it. If it is tight, replace the keyboard with a new one.

My personal laptop is lock. please suggesion us to unlocked password(IBM R52/1860)

Its not meant to be done by an amateur but you can follow the directions on this website to remove an unwanted password in the EEPROM:

Its above most people's skills set, even most laptop techs. Its really not meant to be done. If you want to mail it to me I could do it.

Password lossed

try starting the machine in safe mode. (tap the "F8" key while booting, and select safe mode.) When the welcome screen comes up, there is often a user called Administrator and it most often does not have a password. If you don't use the welcome screen type "Administrator" in the user name box and click OK without a password.
Failing that, you can use a boot disc such as "UBCD4Win"(google it) to start up the machine and use one of the pass word tools to either change the password or create a new user with a new password. Then when you restart the machine normally, you should be able to log on.
