My macbook won't boot up - there's a flashing Apple logo and then the "no" symbol (circle with a diagonal line through it) and they blink back and forth... What did I do, and how can I fix it?

Well.....you seem ;like a nice person. Just put in a new hard drive. Then, get a small laptop hard drive enclosure and pick out the files and stuff you want by readin the HD though that. And, if you're young enough, you jsu get to start over and forget the other hard drive.

That Simple

The loading 'logo' wont disappear. pls help.

Hold the power button down. Keep it down until the unit powers off. Then press power to start the machine up, and as soon as you hear the starting chime (boooong) press Command+Option+P+R and keep them held down until you hear the startup sound 3 times. Then you can let go and it should start normally.

Macbook battery

Unfortunately its a genuine Apple fault and only solution is to replace battery.

However you can try to update battery software first:

My macbook will not start up. It just keeps the apple logo and the "thinking" symbol.

Start up from the OSX disc by holding down the 'C' key on powering on. From the top toolbar, select 'Disc Utility' from the 'Utilities' menu.
Select the hard drive in the left hand column ans run 'First Aid'.
This will diagnose and repair any problems with the hard drive unless the drive is beyond recovery, in which case you will need to replace the hard drive.
