Use the disc that you have to see if you can repair the installation of Windows. As long as it isn't an earlier version of what you have installed, you can use it. For example, if you are using XP with Service Pack 2 and your disk is XP with SP1, you won't be able to use it for repair. You can certainly take out the drive and attach it to another computer, however, you need some equipment to do this. A laptop hard drive is a lot smaller than a desktop one, so you can't just pop it into an empty slot. You will need to get a laptop hardrive enclosure. You put your laptop hard drive in there, make the connections (it is VERY easy) and then attach the laptop hard drive to another computer. You can then see if you can read the disk that way. Most likely, you will be able to since you aren't trying to boot from the drive. Then you can take off the important data and replace your laptop hard drive and start over with a clean install.

I would be wary of downloading an illegal copy of Windows from anywhere. Those copies are fraught with viri and other malware, not to mention that it is ILLEGAL and you will not be able to update the OS.

Please remember to rate my solutions! Thank you

To be honest your best option is to remove the drive and connect it to another computer.. other than that you can try and download a copy of your operating system using Bit Torrent and use the cd to attempt a recovery. What version of windows are you using?

I want to wipe my operating system

You would need a Windows Install Disc, not be confused with a Recovery Disc. Then, depending on how wanted to proceed, boot your computer with the disc in it, and follow the onscreen options to either create a fresh install, or overwrite the existing one and keep the data.

First restart your Toshiba laptop. Press either "F1," "0," or "F8" to be taken to your computer's hard drive utility screen. The key command differs depending on the model Toshiba computer that you own.

Select "Restore Original Factory Image" from the list of options in System Recovery. Verify that you want to continue the process by clicking "Yes," then click "Next".

Restart the Toshiba laptop once the factory restore process has been completed. You will be prompted to enter information such as the date, time and language preferences.

The computer when you turn iot on it wont go to window s it says sum about a disk error

It might be that you have an operating system error. This is usually the result of not properly shutting down your computer. Some of the booting files are damaged or it needs reinstallation of new ones. Try install fresh windows copy to another drive to at least save some of your important files and documents. If the problems persist, eventho you installed fresh copy of windows, it might be that your harddisk has a problem. It might contain some bad sectors or bad blocks. In this case you better consult a qualified and competent technician to properly diagnose the problem and save some of your important documents. My best advise is to go to the brand service center for check up, if it is under warranty (within 1 year from purchase) then you will pay nothing. I just hope my info could help u.

Sounds like a hard drive problem. Try and boot from a windows instalation cd and select repair windows. If this do not work and you have very important info on your hard drive i would take it to be serviced and data saved. If it is not important data on the hard drive reinstall a fresh copy of windows.Good Luck

How to re-format Dell Inspiron E1705 Laptop

If you want to completely erase all data on your hard drive, and start with a fresh installation of Windows, the process is pretty simple. Boot to you Windows Media Disc, delete the existing Windows Partition (Normally the 1st NTFS partition) then create a new NTFS partition, format it, then install WIndows to that partition. After the Windows installation completes, then install the drivers (Normally in this order:)
Desktop system Software (Dell Specific)
Wireless (If Equipped)
Touchpad (If Equipped)
Card reader (If Equipped)

About my loptop

Try right-clicking anywhere on the blackened area of your desktop, a menu might appear. Scroll down to Properties and click. In the Display Properties window click on the Settings Tab and see if you can re-adjust your screen resolution here, if not then read on...

Power off the laptop. Power on the laptop while holding the F8 key or both the SHIFT and F8 key together, if it boots to the Windows start up screen, power off and try again. This will bring up a menu, you will want the BOOT INTO SAFEMODE menu option.

After the safemode boot process, see if your laptop will display graphics (it should default to 640x480 mode and you should be able to view most of your desktop icons). Right click any where in a black area on your desktop, a menu will appear. Scroll to Properties and click. In the Display Properties window, click on the Settings tab and adjust your screen resolution from here.

Let me know if this works or not.
