Question about Olympus MJU 400 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Write Protect error and I think all my pics dissapeared!

I have a write prtoect message on my olympus camera. I dont think I have ever formatted my memory card, but somehow when I inserted my card directly into my laptop to download my pictures they seem to all have been deleted. Normally I use my usb cord to download and I dont know if inserting it directly has corrupted or formatted my memory card. Either way when I try to turn my camera on and view my stored pictures it says "write protect". Also it gives me that same message when I try to take a new picture. So my camera seems useless. And I also really want to try to get back my lost pictures they were very important. Can anyone help?

There is no lock option on my mem card. And i was using the card not the internal memory. The card had a lot of pictures on it. And the thing that is also confusing is that when i hook up the usb cord to download images off the card it will pull up the wizard program and shows me the pictures that are on the card to download. Some pictures show the images but the majority of them have a box that has a big red X in it meaning no image. But it still says that there are 485 pictures to download but it doesnt pull up images. Im not sure if all my pictures are deleted or just wont pull up off the memory card properly because of this "write protection" problem.

Oh, and its a Olympus xD-Picture Card.

I just bought card recovery software and recovered the pics. Now I just gotta figure out how to format my memory card so i wont have to deal with the "write protect" message and so I can take new pictures. At least now if I format I dont have to worry about loosing all my pictures.

If you are using an SD card, it could be possible that the Write Protect tab (the yellow tab on the top right) is in the 'lock' position. Slide it back and try again. If this does not work, make sure you are using the card and not the internal memory to store images.

Some xD cards indeed have a very tiny slider at the back, which you can
slide with a pen or needle. Please check if your card has one. It
depends on the type of card you are using. Many people are facing the
same problem and I couldn't find any solution to this.
Between, can you get another card and try?

Good to know that you got your images back. Now you can try formatting the card from the camera's settings menu.

can mean that the memory card is locked. take out the memory card and check for a lock slide at the sides of the card that you can adjust to a lock and unlock position, then test the card again.

When I go to take a pic, it won't let me because it says "write protect"

Sounds like you will need to format the memory card. This will permanently erase all the data from the card and then you will be able to use it again. To format the card: Press the Menu button - right arrow to Setup- right arrow to format option. You will see format yes or no. Choose Yes and press ok. This will clear the write protect message and the card can be used again.
