The bios screen does come up when the start up option comes up. I have to try safe mode or even last configutration.
I took the battery out because it has been a dud from day one. Oh, I am the lap top question.
    Tahnks so much!

First thing is to check your power supply if its giving a correct voltage for your notebook. if its ok...try to remove your battery and unplug it in then press the power button for about 60 secs. then try to start your notebook in AC (without battery)

If the problem persist, remove the RAM inside your laptop and clean it from dust (also clean your fan and heatsink from dust) then return it back and also check for loose wirings and cable connections.

If everything fails...then you have a bad motherboard (overheated).

I have a dell studio 1558 laptop, suddenly while using the laptop the screen for blank so i did a hard shutdown. After that i tried starting my laptop, but there was only blank screen. I attached my...

Seems like a two fold issue here. The blank screen is possibly a faulty laptop display or inverter but the blue screen is caused by powering off the laptop whilst it was doing something and now has damaged files. With your external monitor connected power up and try to reach Safe Mode and let windows find the issue and attempt a repair or press F8 and select repair OS. When you have repaired the OS, shine a bright light at the laptop screen and see if the inverter is not running or a dead screen.

Why am I getting a blank screen after login?

In case you are using Win OS try to start in save mode. First the Bios is activated after pushing the power button. If you see the screen from the Bios start pushing F8 which brings you to the save mode start up. When your PC starts you can shut it properly by leaving the save mode. Try to start up the pc again in normal mode. I hope it will fix you problem

Laptop not starting properly

follow these steps & ur issue might get resolved(80% chances):
turn off ur notebook-->take out the laptop battery(not the cmos battery)-->disconnect the charger if its connected to the notebook-->now press & hold the power key for atleast 20 seconds, remember that u have to press & hold the power key & dont release the power key till 20 seconds are over--> & ensure that the notebook is not connected to any power source while u r performing this step niether the battery nor the charger--> also there shouldn't be any peripherals connected to the notebook-->once 20 seconds are over & u have released the power key-->connect the battery & the charger back to the notebook & now try to turn on the notebook-->u might not get a blank screen & ur issue might get resolved, turn off ur notebook again & restart to ensure that its not reoccuring....(This whole step is known as power drain & it is done to remove the extra static electricity which sometimes get stored in the notebook & gives a blank screen in return.)

you killed the laptop with out a UPS and you get a power surge with a dead battery them laptop takes the surge and kills the computer. You can remove the battery and unplug the power supply and hold the power button down for a minute then plug the power back in without the battery and try pushing the power button to see if it comes on if it does your lucky. IF it does not put the battery back in and try again. if There is still no power you have killed the power converter or killed the computer.
