Question about HP Photosmart C4480 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Setting up new HP C4480 3 in 1. Can't find "arrows."

Has LCD control panel. Directions say to ''use arrows'' to select language. How do I access arrows? They show up on LCD screen. I've tried touching them. No luck. There are no buttons marked ''arrows'' in any of the instruction diagrams. Any suggestions out there, please?

Thanks! At least I know now I'm not a total idiot! The first screen one sees asks that language be selected and to click OK on the correct one. English was already selected. I OKd. Next screen has English and then Yes and No. No is selected. That's incorrect, and I shouldn't hit OK, but if I hit the Settings button, I get a screen that says "Busy." A second or so later, the same screen comes up. The arrow icons are on the left side of the screen, partitioned from the English, Yes, and No, with an "OK" at the bottom.

Problem solved! I ignored the LED screen and went on with the installation following directions. At one point I pushed one of the 3 buttons to the left of the LED screen, labeled (in manual) Scan/Reprint, Start Copy Black, and Start Copy Color, and discovered they did control the arrows. (Earlier in the process I'd tried them, and they did not control the arrows.) Who knows! .... I'm not pleased with HP for the big waste of yours and my time!

Control panel menu is not in english.

Here are 2 ways of changing that. I changed mine to Portugese once. Had a heck of a time figuring out what the menu said LOL. Both proceses will change it back. To change the language used for the text on the front panel:
  1. On the front panel, with Menus highlighted, press the OK key.
  2. Scroll to the Printer Setup Menu by pressing the Up Arrow or Down Arrow key.
  3. Press the OK key.
  4. Scroll to Set Front Panel Language by pressing the Up Arrow or Down Arrow key.
  5. Press the OK key.
  6. Scroll to the desired language by pressing the Up Arrow or Down Arrow key.
  7. Press the OK key to save the selected setting
This is how you change it via your computer.
  1. Open a web browser on your pc.
  2. Type the IP address of the printer into the address area and press return.
  3. Select the Properties tab when the page is done loading.
  4. Look in the left hand column for the + General folder.
  5. Click on the + one time to open the folder.
  6. Under the general folder you will see a subfolder named Printer Defaults.
  7. Click on the Printer Defaults folder one time and you will see a new column open on the right side of the page named Printer Defaults.
  8. In the first box, User Preferences, you will see a header for; Set front panel language with the default setting.
  9. Click on the down arrow and a list of different languages will open.
  10. Select the desired language.
  11. Scroll down the page and under the last box you will see two tabs named Save Changes and Discard Changes.
  12. Select Save Changes one time.
  13. Once you have pressed Save Changes you should get a box that opens up and states; Request Acknowledged; No errors were reported.
  14. Look at the front panel of the printer and the language should be changed to the language you selected above.

The front panel language does not set correctly There can be a problem if the front panel cover (bezel) is not installed correctly. If the language cannot be set or is still wrong, do the following:
  1. If the software has not been installed, install it.
  2. Remove the control panel bezel. This may require the use of a coin or small screwdriver to carefully pry up the cover from the back (near the display).
  3. Reinstall the front panel bezel as shown in Figure 1. Be sure the bezel is firmly seated and that all of the buttons can move freely. Figure 1: Installing the front panel bezel c00224430.jpg
  4. Set the front panel language following the steps above.
