Question about Toshiba 56HM195 56" Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Picture distorted husband says it looks overexposed I say it has faint green and pink horizontal spaces/lines across the whole picture. When there is a close up of a face or a light background there is a pink & green iridescent effect. At Toshibas suggestion I replaced the lamp with no improvement

I didn't realize a TV had a motherboard. I called TV repair they said it cost $200 to look at it and it's possibly a light engine at $2000 or a module..also expensive. He suggested a new TV--not a DLP. This TV is only 3 years old and at a cost of $2600 I won't put a $2000 part in it.

Wave & three colors

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Coulor distortion at the top left of the screen

Hello jordan ashe,

This is an indication that the green CRT is having a convergence problem. This might be caused by the convergence amplifier or by the CRT. Does the rest of the picture look OK? and in addition can you supply a picture of your TV so as I can see what you are seeing and develop a proper diagnosis?

Thank you,

you need a green CRT thats whay you have the white kind of concave lines with the green screen. You can try adjusting the green screen control but you need anew CRT ( tube) the speaker cover has two plastic plugs that get removed on the lower edge os the grille which covers the two screws that hold the grille on. If you need more assistancr or where to get a green CRT let me know as I have a link that has some green and red Tubes for your model.

RED AND GREEN LINES HORIZONTALLY ACROSS TV

This sounds like you may have bad picture tubes. Most likely the green and red tubes. You would have to have them replaced and realigned. I would call a Sony ASC and get an estimate to verify this. An onsite service call could verify if this is what's causing your problem.

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.
