The waste ink absorber can sometimes be removed and cleaned out and put back into place. Although it is not always easy to get at. Usually once this happens it is time for a new printer. You can also contact Canon and see if they have a replacement part for this.
You need to replace the ink absorber kit and to completely disassemble the printer to replace the absorber. Attempting to clean the ink absorber is not recommended. Self servicing the absorber can be a very messy operation. I would check with a Canon repair center to see what the cost to have the servicing done by a trained technician. In some cases, it is cheaper to replace the printer.
Please under-stand at some time you will need to clean out the waste inkpads that are inside your printer or it going to be a big mess of inks coming out. This is what the manual says: Ink used for cleaning is absorbed in a waste ink absorber placed in the machine.
Press [OK] to cancel the error so that you can continue printing. Once the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, printing cannot be done until the waste ink absorber is replaced.
Canon recommends to contact a Canon service representative as soon as possible.
