Gateway Laptop M350WVN- not booting at all

I have a used Gateway M350WVN laptop, when I got it I was told it will probably need a new battery, which I did get and try to charge.

If I have only the AC Adapter plugged in the laptop will not power up at all and there are no lights on the front of my laptop.

If I have the battery in and the ac adapter plugged in, the battery light goes orange and there is a faint light where the ac light is. When I hit the power button, it turns on for a second and then all lights go out. Sometimes they come back on in a minute or two and sometimes I have to unplug the ac adapter to get them back on.

When I first got the replacement battery I had it working for 45 minutes and it died on me. It also has a new ac adapter. I am hoping this won't be an expensive fix.
Please help!!!!
Thanks

It may need to be left on charge for a while...
when u first boot by pressing power wait for a minute or so and press and hold power button til shut down then try reboot..also try boot from disk....need to distinguish whether motherboard or software issue.

Will not power on

MPC has since dissolved, leaving thousands of customers without dedicated support when their Gateway laptop won't start.

Remove the AC adapter from the laptop and attempt to boot the laptop from battery alone. Attempt to turn on the laptop.
Replace the AC adapter and remove the battery from your laptop.
Ensure the adapter is plugged in. Attempt to turn on the laptop.

Disconnect the AC adapter and leave the battery removed from the laptop.
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
Nothing should happen on the screen.
Reconnect the AC adapter to the laptop.
Attempt to power on the laptop.
If the laptop boots, replace the battery once the operating system loads.

Try the process again with a new AC adapter and battery if possible.
Contact Gateway support if you aren't a former MPC customer.
Alternatively, take the laptop to a computer specialist if it still won't start.

I have to hit the f1 key to continue the bootup process. Then I get a defective fan error message, but the fan is running, becasue I can hear it.

there may be more than one fan-- there also is a setting in the BIOS to disable the fan warning if you are SURE that the fan it is monitoring is working correctly.

No power lights on gateway laptop model mx8711, power cord is working, does this model have a power fuse inside

Hi there.
The battery maybe faulty, remove the battery and try it on AC power only, there are no fuses that can be replaced inside the laptop.
If the laptop boots up on AC turn it back off and reinsert the battery and try to boot again, if it does not boot up then there is a problem with the battery and you will need a new one.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

My husband plugged his Philip's system into my laptop

Try using head phones to see if you get sound. If you get sound ur speakers on the laptop are blown, if not it might be the sound circuit. You should check Device Manager to see if ur sound card is showing up or if there is an error on it. If its blown you might not find any sound device or it might be highlighted with an error

Hope this helps. Just take your time and remember what screw goes where.

Gateway m350wvn sound

R U running XP or vista?
Be sure to make the difference when selecting drivers. Normally the drivers will be in a zip package. Download, unzip and then goto control panel - system and uninstall devices and then "action" scan for changes. This will reinstall the drivers from the unzipped location, ( U may have to tell it where they are). Good Luck

Gateway MX8711 Battery Won't Charge

As long as the laptop still works on AC then your battery is probably dead. It is a few years old already so it probably wasnt far from the end of its useful life anyway.

Try not to drain laptop batteries down all the way to zero - Its best to always have some charge in them to extend the life.
