I talked to my cable bozo's so many times about this - and 80% of the time thay act like they have NEVER ever heard of this problem. It happens to us on a regular - almost daily basis. I've replaced our boxes several times - and it keeps happening. The only people who have admitted it is an ongoing issue- has been the guys that come to the house. One mentioned something about a "waitlist" to have us addresses first when a better one comes out. I think that is a dream though - because of how dumb the folks on the phone act. When it acts up like that more than one time during something I watch - I just watch the commericials. I also tell my husband to NEVER trust the cable box. If you are interested in something - just pausing it is not going to mean you'll get to watch it. Just record it! That way if it goes on craptastic auto pilot - you can still go to your recordings and play it over. I've had TW since they took over for comcast in north texas - and it's always been like this with them. Comcast - i never remember then having any problems like this.

You may want to try fast forwarding at 2x (that is, press the FF key twice), although the speed will be faster, it may actually stop for you, when you press play, rather than going to the end.

How do I clean the head when it gives you an alert?

two ways, buy a mini dv cleaning cassette, two if you do not have one, put the cam in play mode, hit play, than fast forward button for a min, the tape going fast sometimes cleans the head. not just fast forward but play, than ff so the tape is hitting the head, other than that, the cam has to be taken apart and the heads cleaned with the proper cleaning solution and PROPER brush as not to hurt the fragile heads

How can i fast foreward commercials with the vcr

If you are watching a tape, simply use the FF button to skip forward until you see that the commercial is over, and then press PLAY to resume playing.
If you are watching a live TV program, the short answer is - you cannot. You need a PVR or TIVO or such device to be able to do that - and even then you have to be time shifted back at least the duration of the commercial you want to skip first!

Skipping ahead when viewing recorded programs

It sounds liek your remote control button is sticking inside a bit.
To test it, have it playing, and hide the remote under a cushion so it can't possibly send a signal to the main unit.
Sometimes the rubber buttons need cleaning underneath, even though they don't appear to be stuck down at all.
Its also possible that the remote is actually just going faulty emitting fake signals. I have a HiFi that turns on and starts the radio all on its own (spooky!!!). I found its the remote occasionally sends a radio-on signal about once a week to the HiFi :)
I just hide the remote now unless i'm using the thing.

Camera plays in fast forward-like speed

Though I don't know the details of your camera and the tape you are playing, one explanation could be that the tape was recorded in "extended play" EP rather than "standard play" SP. Some VCRs and some cameras are incapable of playing back in EP, a mode where the tape moves at half speed so you can record more on the same tape. The result is that the tape playing back at regular speed appears twice as fast and fast forward will be even faster.

Unfortunately, unless your machine can be manually set to play back in EP (usually it is automatic) the solution is to play it back in a machine that can handle EP.

My VCR tapes skip or only play in fast forward

If you are recording the tapes in a slow speed, then I would suspect that the tracking pulse is not being recorded properly. Since this is a new VCR, return it for an exchange. One of the recording heads is bad.

VHS tape was playing . After stoping does not play. Other tape will play

The idler wheel (that only drives the tape in play or scan modes) is slipping too much (very common problem). Try verify this by putting the tape in play then immediately press the fast fwd or rewind buttons to scan the tape. On older machines, the idlers used rubber friction tires - on newer ones, a clutch. Either replace the tire or increase the spring tension on the clutch.
Hope Ya Fix It.
