Problem with recognizing 2nd hard drive in Compaq EVO D510

I purchased a WD 500 GB WD5000AAKB hard drive for my EVO D510. I installed it as a secondary with the Cable Select Jumper settings. When booting up, I checked the setup and the system recognized the hard drive in the setup. I saved the settings and booted up to XP. I could only see the C drive and not the new drive. I went to the Add Hardware menu and saw the device and it said the "device is working properly". I tried changing the jumper settings to master/slave but the system wouldn't even recognize the drive at that pont. I changed it back to Cable Select and the system recognized the drive but I couldn't see it in My Computer.
Any ideas on what to do?

You need to initialize the newly added drive in disk management, then format the drive once disk management assigns a drive letter.

CONTROL PANEL, ADMIINSTRATIVE TOOLS, COMPUTER MANAGEMENT, DISK MANAGEMENT

There you should be able to see the 2nd drive, Right click and INITALISE it, once it is initialized, it will be assigned a drive letter and you can format the drive

I am attempting to run a compaq EVO d510 with a recently imaged 160 GB hard drive. It flashes blue screen of death and reboots after loading agpcpq.sys. I think that the most advanced hard drive mode is...

If the image on your hard drive doesn't have all the right drivers for your system, it won't work, and you will get BSOD. can you boot into safe mode? If so, you may be able to uninstall a driver or two...it usually the last driver/file that successfully installed, not the one that doesn't finish loading, so see what the file "before" agpcpq.sys is. If you have a windows XP cd, you can try to get into the recovery console and then the command prompt, and typing "fixboot" ...or you can run the system file checker "sfc /scannow" ...but without more information, you may end up wiping it. Do you know what drivers are on the hardd rive?

Hello i have compaq evo d510 and

You need to partition your Hard drive to however much you want reserved for the Linux OS. You need to get a live CD of the Linux distribution you want and after you have partitioned your Hard drive, you need to boot from the live CD and install Linux onto the Partitioned part of the hard drive. DO NOT install Linux onto the regular partition, this will mess up your current operating system

WD 500 GB resized by Norton Ghost Restore to 120 GB and can not get it to original size.

You should partition your new drive first to say 160Gb (you lose a bit after formatting) for 1st partition and the remaining capacity for the 2nd partition. Because your Ghost image is 120Gb it can only restore to a partition of 120Gb, that is why it shows 120Gb on a 500Gb on a single partition.
You may be able to fix this problem without starting again by using Disk Manager (from Control Panel - Admoinistrative Tools) to create a 2nd partition on the hard drive and format this partition.
