HP zv5000 power connector problem

Like many others, the power connector broke. When i had this problem on my Compact Presario, i bought a port replicator that had an excellect power connector. i had hoped the Targus universal docking station would do the same but am told it will not power the laptop. Anyone know of a docking station or port replicator for this model that will power the laptop? i am seriously not into paying over $100 to get it fixed only to have it happen so many others have done.

Nothing made by man lasts forever
find used parts on EBAY
buy them and be happy you fixed it.
after 10 years, new parts are not sold.
if it was desktopl, we can fix them all. standard parts there.
but not this PC.
yours has the crapppy power jack, direct soldered ! BS !
that means after flexing 10000 times, its fails. all do. no stopping that... unless.....
on my newer Elitebook it has cute flex cable that never fails. eg;

that leaves you 2 choices fix it or upgrade to better laptop or desktop
1: fix it with new mobo
2:fix it with new connector, takes skills , we pay for skills.
3: upgrade. to newer better hardware, ask. (hp8540)

this is what HP did to stop this failure.
when the jack move the wire flexes and not the frail
all good laptops use this, if not, its just a toy laptop.(throwaway)

that is correct the docking ports , back feed power to the pc, on the bottom
but do know that that is an expensive fix
    for a $1 bad jack.!
and must match you laptop , no guessing
    a MATCH.
    and will not be cheap.
    ebay is the only place
unless you can find 3rd party makers.
    google that.

we use a special soldering station
with SMD hot gun, to heat it fast and drop the bad jack ,fast and harm free.. (key word harm)
    it's not a trivial fix.
    then the solder cleaned off
and a new jack solder on.
ever take out a mobo, i bet not.
if you did you know it's not 5min work.
and on some the heat sinks need to be pulled first
break that bond and more work put on the correct grade of thermal compound, not just any.
$100 is fair rate. IMO. do it yourself and learn how.

all things in , www, are easy
until you get to do it yourself!
    arm chair quarter backs endless.
    buy a new MOBO
or get a real tech to fix it. that will cost you more than a used MOBO.
then you get it , and it too has the same bad jack, back to square one.?

    buy a better LT, ask.

SOURCE: I have an HP zv5000

At this point, you can't find any such cable, since it is outdated. The only thing I could suggest is try to disassemble the dock to remove the cable, the only problem is you would now need desk space to hold the computer...

My Hp pavilion zv5000 power fail and goes on battery mode, i have to plug and unplug to make it work, please help

The first thing to do is test an another charger,
maybe a workshop let you try theirs to get your problem sorted out.
if it works fine with the other charger, then its just to buy a new one.
if the same problem still exists with an another charger,
then its your charger connection solderings that are loose.
To prevent further damage to the motherboard
you must leave it to a workshop for resoldering the charger connection on to the motherboard
hope this was any help,if helpfull, Please vote!

ZV5120 pavilion notebook powercord not connecting

You can get an exact adapter from eBay link below, they are quite cheap. Sometimes the break is close to the end of the plug, and sometimes, the actual solder on the socket inside the unit is fractured, causing intermittent connections. Often we are able to use the old cord Plug, and graft on the new power Lead. However it is wired and regardless of how many wires are inside, the is only One - Negative, the OUTER contact. The INNER Contact is Always + Positive, sometimes there are three wire inside, TWO are Plus, and ONE, the shield, is negative.

HP Pavilion ZV5000 Charger

HP has a cord that plugs into the right side of the zv5000 that is intended for use with a docking station that they sell separately. The connector has a blade with a bunch of connections, but I only use 2, power and ground. The outermost contacts are power +and-. I bought the cord - re-wired my power cord to the new cord power wires - takes some figuring to determine correct wires - soldered them up and it has worked great for 2 years - much better connector also - squeeze side tabs to plug in or un-plug. This solution was about $25 if I remember - compared to $135 that the shop quoted me to replace the internal MB power connector

HP ZV5000

For all those with the ZV series power jack problem, I have replaced a few of these jacks and it is not an easy job unless you are an engineer.

The entire laptop needs to be disassembled, all the panels need to be removed, including the keyboard and you almost have to remove the motheboard.

Even when you eventually gain access to the offending part, you will need to be competent in using a soldering iron to remove the jack without damaging the printed board, then clear the holes so the new jack can be fitted.

While you are doing all this, you need to remember that the circuitry is static sensitive. This means that you can kill your motherboard just by touching it.

When you have finally finished the job, unless you have been pretty smart, you'll end up with a box full of different size screws and you won't know what goes where!

With the ZVs I have repaired, I usually supply a short jumper lead that plugs into the power jack on the back of the laptop. This is two or three inches long with a cable power socket on one end and a power plug on the other. This means that the user can leave the power plug plugged into the laptop all the time and just disconnect and reconnect the power unit from the other end of the patch lead instead of wearing out the laptop's power jack.
