Please see your user manual for the meaning of the various light combinations, or if you don't have one, see:

http://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/sc86__/sc86__ug/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm

and look at "Diagnosing Printer Problems".

BOBDOYLE - can you confirm which red light is flashing? If it is the ink light, see the instructions for changing ink cartridges. If it is the paper jam light, check for a paper jam. If you still cannot fix it, come back with a new comment giving any further information.

According to the documentation for your printer.

Red probsolv.6.3.11.jpg paper and probsolv.6.3.12.jpg ink lights flash alternately Paper may be blocking movement of the print head. Turn off the printer, then open the cover and remove any jammed paper or other foreign objects. Turn the printer back on again. If the lights are still on, contact your dealer or Epson as described in Where To Get Help.

I installed new ink cartrages in my Epson C86

this is idicative of a waste pad counter overflow, the ssc printer utility can clear the inbuilt counter but if your using your printer a lot it would be a good idea to replace or clean the waste pad, its inside the printer and will bee messy but if your doing lots of prints it will be less messy than if it overflows

Epson Stylus C86 won't print

You have to check if the waste pad of the printer is full. If this occurs, you have to call a technician to replace it (or yourself can do , if you are able to). With the waste pad replaced, you can reset the internal counter with this program :
http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

This program can show you if the waste pad is full, or what problem is happening.

Problem after jam paper

Turn off printer
-check for specks of paper inside the printer or parts that may appear to be damage.
-turn printer on

If you'll get the same error lights chances are there is an internal error. Sensor mechanism might be damage.

Check this site: www.epson.com/loyalty and use the passcode: Lock then register.

Thanks for your time, hope this will help.

EPSON STYLUS C86

Let's Try first if it can print without using your computer just to check if printer is working fine by itself.
step1
Make sure its not connected to the computer and there is paper loaded on the printer. Turn off printer, press and hold paper button (middle button) then press and release the power button (right button). If you can see a flashing green light release your hold on the paper button.
If it prints by itself good go to step 2 if not check what lights do you see. Solid red light on ink light (tear drop button) means one or more inks is empty. Epson printer will not print if one or more ink is empty.
step2
Check if computer can detect printer goto start/control panel/systems/ click on hardware tab and click on device manager
On device manager click on Universal Serial Bus controllers press on the "+" sign check if there is USB printing support on it
Check if there is a mark (ie. ?, !, red x mark). If none good there is no conflicts. If there is a mark right click on USB printing support and click on update driver and install recommended
