Prints copies like varying gradients of black and white. The top of the copied paper will have black text that grows lighter and darker throughout the page. It does this before it hits the fusing unit so I'm guessing optics or something beyond my comprehension. Any tips, please help!
One of 2 things likely...It could be as simple as your toner cartridge. Do you have another to try?? Otherwise it should be an optics problem. I've only worked on a couple of these, so i can't remember exactly, but basically you want to get the top scanner glass out. I think you have to remove one of the end panels, and perhaps the top back panel. should be fairly obvious when looking at it, the glass, should slide out the end (power should be "OFF" by the way), slide the scanner to the right and clean the mirrors, and bulb, and then clean the glass. replace and check. Hope this helps.

It sounds like the printhead needs to be replaced. Brother may cover the cost of repair if you call them at 877-276-8437 and tell them the prints are "missing black ink". Very common problem that a new printhead should fix.
If the blank ink still cames in the printer means that their still ink inside the cartridge, kindly check if there are papers left inside the printer when it was removed if there is you have to take it off.
Turn off the printer, delete the remaining files that is to printed on the printer dialog box by just double clicking the icon found at the bottom of the task bar.
Turn on the power of the printer, have a printer test to test if the pritned copy is good. Clean the head, or the nozzle of the printer at the maintenance tab.
If the problem still arises means the head align was damage or mess align that happend when the paper was remove forcely.
NOTE: The problem occurs because of the trickle development system in the machine, making extended lengths of black and white copies / prints does not allow the black developer housing to purge itself of excess waste Toner (Dry Ink) and Developer. There are two solutions for the problem:
Make 1,000 copies / prints of a black and white job, then make 150 copies / prints of full color. Continue making 1,000 copies / prints of the black and white job, then 150 full color, and so on, until the entire black and white job is complete.
Make extended jobs in groups of 100 by making 100 copies / prints of the black and white job, then allowing the machine to cycle down (return to 'Ready') and making the next 100 copies / prints. Continue in this pattern until the entire black and white job is complete.
NOTE: The above solutions are based on jobs using 8.5 x 11 inch paper, single sided, with no more than 28% coverage.
