DAMAGED POWER OUTLET ON MY LAPTOP

I have a Pavilion ZE4125 XP 1600+ Notebook that has a problem with the power supply jack. On the back of the notebook where you plug the power cord into, as long as I do not touch the cord the computer is fine, but the minute I move the computer around a little bit or bump the cord the computer goes off and I have to wiggle the cord around a bit until the computer powers back up. I tested the cord itself and it is fine...no breaks in the wire...this is definitely the power jack that is attached to the mother board (it has become loose or somehow no longer has a firm grip on the power cord so the computer loses power and goes off). Is there a way to have this fixed without it costing an arm and a leg??? I went to the GeekSquad and Oy Vey they were talking hundreds of dollars to repair it (500 to 1000 to repair...I looked at them as if they were retarded). I have replaced the mother board on my PC, but have never replaced the motherboard on my laptop...is the difficulty the same?? Would this solve the problem? or is there another solution??

Thanks for responding

SAMSON

First, you do not need to replace the motherboard. What you are describing is a very common problem for HP notebooks. You can buy the part on eBay for about $5.00, usually with shipping! It will take a while to take the machine apart - and you must be very careful! but it's an easy fix once you get the notebook apart. This page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=214342& will give you the info on your machine. Just download the manual entitled: Maintenance and Service Guide. You will need Adobe Acrobat to read the file. I recommend that you print the guide before you begin. It will walk you step-by-step on how to disassemble the notebook to get to the power jack. It all requires is some soldering. You may not even need a new jack, but just know that eBay sellers have them.

I think i accidentally hit the lock button while it was on and when i pulled the battery out (wasn't responding to poweroff button) it wouldnt come back on again

Try this remove battery and power supply. Hold the power button for 30 seconds. Plug in power supply (leave out the battery) now press the power button. It should power on, after bootup shut down laptop unplug power supply, insert battery then power supply and power up. All should be well. good luck.

Was using my Hp Pavilion dv7 laptop, suddenly turned off while the charger was plugged in. Turned back on then shut off again. Now my laptop wont even turn on, and there are no lights that even come on,...

1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.

Dv6700z power issues.

The power jack on the side of the notebook is either damaged & need to be replaced, or it just needs to be re-soldered to the laptops mainboard.
In either case, the laptop needs to be disassembeled & the jack either re-soldered or replaced.

Hp laptop will not power up...at all. In fact the

1) You need to check the power supply itself to mkae sure it still puts out the DC voltage as indicate on the power supply.

2) You may have cracked solder joints at the DC input jack of the laptop.

Plug in your power cord from the laptop to an electrical outlet. Your battery is dead and/or needs recharged.

Headphone Speaker Jack Needs Replacement

That honestly sounds more like a headphone wire problem than anything else. If you have another headset, headphones or speaker system that you can hook up, I would test it on those to try to rule that out as a problem.

If that isnt it, I can try to find the disassembly instructions for your laptop. (Unless your warranty is still good, in which case I would tell you to send it in and get it fixed professionally.)

My HP pavilion laptop will not turn on

Probably a broken AC jack inside the machine, typically about $150 repair.

If you dont know any good repair shops in your area,
try www.absoluteraleigh.com They have a good reputation.
