Can you get it to go into windows at all?

Did you actually change the CPU?

When it says to hit F1, keep hitting it repeatedly, you will kow it acepted it when you hear a little beep from the P.C. Case

then it should go into bios. if not, then it may not be recongnizing the keyboard.

typically this issue occures because the internal clock is off do to apower shortage or the Bios battery has dies. Its a little watch battery on the system board. If you can get into windows, check the date and time, set it and it should sync the bios clock.

Let me know how it goes.

well, you can unplug and remove the BIOS battery and wait about 30 seconds and put it back in and then try again. This will reset the bios to factiry defaults. Then see if you can get into bios by pressing dell.

If you strike F1, the system retries as said in the comment. That does'nt solve anything. Rather strike F2 which allows to enter the setup menus of your computer.
In this area you should understand what you are doing. Any update of setupdata may prevent further restart. At least take note of values and changes. You exit setup via a question "update Y/N". Then the computer restarts.
Anyway, in the setup menu you may inspect the devices and see if you the system identifies the disk. If not it may come from a bad connection of hard disk (sata pins, ...) or from low level disk information (format information).
With setup menu you may get in the boot order menu, that allows for the selection of an alternate boot media. You may boot on an installation media, ( install DVD generally, like originall windows install DVD) in order to understand and repair the situation, or from a rescue system like UBCD. You may also try Ubuntu from the CD without installing, just to verify if you may see the disk in the configuration.

Recently acquired a Dell Inspiron 530s, having 2 problems. First, it won't boot right into Windows (Vista), asks to hit an F key (after hitting F1, it goes right into Windows). I went into Setup and a

It's a 'failsafe' - You will need to go back into the BIOS - double check the boot settings - and verify the HDD is set to Auto - make sure the RAM installed is the RAM shown on the boot screen.
Ok, once that is done reboot 2x - hit no keys - if it request F1 to continue, CTRL/ALT/DEL reboot. - go into BIOS, go to boot options find the part that states "stop on error" and disable that... reboot.
If that doesn't help Contact me here. I've other solutions to try as it is a DELL and I've dealt with them for years.

Heloo sir i have a problem with my dell 170l when i start it it shows ''strike F1 to continue, F2 to run the setup utility'' when i click f1 it show ''f1 to retry boot,f2 for setup utility'' plz help me...

Hit F2,look in setup to see if the hard drive is recognized and check that the date and time are correct.
Then hit esc key. it will ask if you want to save changes, click yes. It should boot and probably ask you to hit F1 or F2 again., unless there is a problem with the CMOS battery, which may need to be replaced.
If you hit F1 to continue, it will boot, but your time and date will be off.

I am having problem with my CPU.When I switch on it state that low battery voltage. Please can you help me with some software or give information on how to solve this problem.Your time & effort in...

Had this problem once before on boot up, but can't find the fix for it.
On boot up, I get the message that says "battery voltage low" and I have
to hit F1 to continue or F2 for setup. My battery voltage is NOT low.
Does anyone have the solution to this as it's quite annoying to have the
boot stop and wait for the F1 command? I promise NOT to lose the solution
again. Thanks.

Just a guess, but is it referring to your CMOS battery and might therefore
be an early indication that it needs changing?

Got CPU from friend and it wont work

When prompted again hit F2 as the bios clock may be incorrect, which means your cmos battery needs changing, reset the time and save, exit for a re boot. Take the side off the pc and look at the motherboard for a flat disc shaped watch type battery and replace if required.
