Question about Danby DDW497W 22 in. Countertop Dishwasher
Where can i get a new one ....
Another thing that has worked acceptably well for me in this case is 'gluing' the plastic window back into place with a generous layer of GE Silicone II Kitchen and Bath sealant.
it works on both metal and plastic.
make sure the surfaces are all completely dry and apply a layer around the rectangle area where the plastic would normally meet the stainless steel (remove any plastic bits from the holes so that the sealant can squeeze in a little), place the plastic window back into position and put some weight over the entire surface of the window....not too much, but enough so that it'll squeeze the sealant out to the edges and seal entirely around.
let 'cure' 24 hours
mine has held together over a month now and doesn't appear to be coming apart (although i think i could've used a bit more sealant)

My older model had cheap plastic type rivets around the window. Of course they broke and water leaked out the window. I took the door apart and put in a new gasket the siliconed the heck out of it!
Put dishwasher on a counter or floor and put a nice thick phonebook under neath the opened door for support. Carefully replace window with gasket and a bead of silicone. Put enough weight on top to press it down and seal it. Leave for 24-48 hrs. I've replaced the window 3 times and this fix has lasted 2 years now. total cost about $10 and a little effort. make sure you use heat tolerant silicone. Don't bother phoning Danby. They customer service dept. is a joke. They just don't care. Don't take my word for it though. just read the comments and reviews from other people and look on Craigslist and see how many people are desperate to sell the "Like New" Danby dishwashers. there's a reason why and make up your own mind. Seriously. Pay more money for a better product. Don't buy Danby

Drill out the plastic feet. Get some stainless steel machine screws and stop nuts. Attach the plexiglas panel with the ss. machine screws. Put some very high quality waterproof silicone caulking under and around the nuts and/or get some rubber washers and put them under the head of the s.s. machine screws. I had the same thing happen and that is how I solved the problem and it now no longer leaks at all. The other problem I have had is a chipping and then rusting dish rack. I solved that by putting rust converter on the metal exposed and then covering it with white epoxy putty but this is only a temporary fix as, in time, the entire rack starts to lose its plastic coating and you have to order another rack from Danby. I also had trouble with the rinse aid dispenser plastic wearing so thin that I had to remove it and then patch it back together with white epoxy putty. Last night, I got a very ominious sound from the motor. I have had this dishwasher since Aug. 2006 and it has been in use every night since then to now, March, 2009.
There are several durability issues with this dishwasher. I notice that now Wal*Mart appears to have stopped selling it since I put in a review like this one but much more detailed and they did not post my review ! I suspect they took my review to Danby in Findlay, Ohio and told them they had to solve the problems before Wal*Mart would continue to sell the product.
