My husband had to take the computer "back to a previous day" and since then my printer does not function properly. I need to re-install it from the begining but can not find the instructions due to our recent move.

Is the printer directly connected to your husband's computer?
If so your husband's computer MUST be switched on AND connected to the network. Depending on your settings your husband's computer may have to be logged in, for it to be 'connected to the network'
Also power saving could be causing you problems. I.e. your husbands machine may be going into 'sleep' mode when not in use. You can adjust the 'power saving' options from control panel (on your husband's machine) to prevent the computer going off-network and therefore setting your printer 'off-line'
Hope this helps.

I had previously installed the printer on this computer, but then the computer died (from a virus) and we made a boot cd, setting the computer back to a previous date when the virus was not a problem.
--- This does not kill the virus, unless this was a complete back up of the previous date, if its a recover to a particular date, the virus is likely still there. I would suggest a full virus/malware scan. Even with that done, I would probably still back up all important documents, pics, information, ect; and do a full factory restore (erase and reinstall). Then install the printer.
With that said, your best bet is to go directly to Espons website and download the latest drivers for this printer and install it from that.
Did you disable the User Account Control and tried installing the Software completely?? You will have to uninstall all the previous version Applications and then disable the UAC and install the application,.
I know windows 7 has been giving people a lot of problems with older printers. Try reloading and see if it will resolve your printing issues. If not let me know and I will give you a few other suggestions. I will also consult our HP specialist who we have on staff. You may need to have a firmware update, but I will verify with him.
Does the printer print its own self test page? if so then check solution center if it states that there are no devices detected or that you need to insert the disk and complete the installation it means that the drivers did not install properly. if you havent already download the full feature software and drivers from hp and uninstall the previous installation that was attempted.
Please click HERE to download a trusted driver for your printer. Before you install you should do the following: Click "Start", "All Programs", "Accessories", "System Tools" and select "System Restore" and then select "Create a restore point". Then proceed with the installation and the warning "Windows may not function properly", accept it and if the computer does not function properly after you have installed this driver then you should go back to "System Restore" and this time you must select "Restore my computer to an earlier time". This will ensure that your computer will return to it's normal state and no data will be lost.
