Either the HD is bad or you will need to reinstall the O.S. /firmware.
the firmware is avail on the alesis site

I had the same problem.....but reading your post helped me with my corrupted file. I just powered up like you said and immediately held the create cd button and utility button. I held it until the formatting was finished. problem solved....but lost some music in the process. Charlie Woo.

I cant make recordings on my masterlink every time a record a few songs and try to burn a red book cd from the hard drive it says songs less than 5 seconds

Look at all the tracks in the playlist that you're trying to burn to CD - is there a track that you've perhaps forgotten about still in the playlist, one of less than 5 seconds?
When you press Create CD, you're telling the Alesis to create a CD from the WHOLE of the current playlist, not just the track you recorded most recently ...

Playlist exceeds disk space will not allow to create cd

Delete tracks from the playlist to bring the total time to less than the maximum available on the CD. If you're trying to write a redbook CD this will be just under 80mins, less if you're using higher sample rates and CD24 discs.

I bought an Alesis Masterlink ML 9600 for my church but have come to realize that its operation manual is not the best written thing I've ever read. I have it connected for analog input from my audio...

Have you thought the posibillity that the track is too short so there is plenty of remaing "time"to write to the disk? Try putting some more tracks in the recording line. Don't forget that the mean time for recording on audio cd is about 74 minutes (or 99 tracks, whatever comes first).

Try this and in case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post.

Tracks too short to to create CD from hard drive.

either have to delete the short tracks from playlist to burn...when i get mssg theres usually nothing there (hit new track 2x by accident, just silence) Or if u want what is on the short tracks, have to join it to longer track b4 or after it, making one longer track, and no more 1 sec track...to do: hold playlist edit and delete track button, will ask if want to join two tracks, say yes and its done...When u do this, the track you do this on will b joined to the previous track, it will give u mssg showing which two tracks about to join and what track name will b left...(for example do u want to join track 01 to track 02...resulting track name will b track 02)..can then burn once all short tracks either deleted or joined to larger tracks...

To delete a Track from a playlist, you must currently have that Track selected in the display. Pressing the DEL TRACK button will cause a confirm delete page to be displayed, where "Song 01" is the name of the Track to be deleted. Pressing UP/YES will remove that Track from the playlist, moving the next Track in the playlist in its place. Pressing DOWN/NO will cancel the operation and return the unit to its previous state.

NOTE: Deleting a Track from a playlist does not delete the audio samples from the hard disk. The audio remains on the disk in an "Audio File"

Hdcd corrupt ifile

Hi LeRoy. Your songs should be safe anyway. Alesis will just ghost the playlists over to a new drive and update the software. Corrupt sectors are not uncommon. The problem isn't usually the fault of Alesis. They are not always the the OEM manufacturer of the drive itself, only the software installed on it.

My data was ghosted onto a new drive and haven't had any problems since.

(PS. If the song that is sticking is corrupted, it may not copy, or you may not want to copy it. I would re-copy the song onto the new drive from your back-ups)
