GE over the range profile microwave. How do I remove top grill need to clean cannot clean it very good while it is on both sides loosen but middle dosen't seem to come off and I don't want to break it. Has grease build up.
On models with two screws on top of cabinet, you must first remove these screws and then 1) open door fully 2) gently tap grill at microwave top on the right hand side - taping or moving grill to the left.
The grill tabs will then disengage from the slots at the bottom edge of the grill.

Re: GE Profile microwave remove top grill
1. Unplug power.
2. Remove two screws holding grille, either on top of the front edge of the outer case or in the grille itself.
3. The grille should lift right out. In not, you may need to pull it to the left about 1/4".

Unplug microwave or shut off house breaker. Remove grill or cover that goes across the top of door and control panel.Remove screw that holds control panel on and lift up on control panel. It will tilt downward and has 2 tabs at the bottom that go into slots. It can be lifted out of those slots. The fuse should be seen at the top area in the microwave behind where the control panel was mounted. Fuse is usually small 1/4 round type fuse like old type car fuses that were glass but the micro fuse will be either a white of gray ceramic fuse not glass. Some are 15 amp some are 20 amp. Usually stamped on end of fuse.
Remove vent grille, then remove control panel. Check wire to cavity thermostat. Sometime wire bundle and small space causes poor terminal connections on this thermostat and will burn wire terminal. Cut off bad part of the wire, install a small terminal end, reconnect to thermostat. If thermostat is destroyed, also replace thermostat.
The oven interior bulb is on the top. Look closely at the grille above the door. There are two recessed screws that hold the grille in place. Remove these and carefully pull the grille straight out. You may have to wiggle it a bit - it's a tight fit on most of those I've serviced. Look in the center of the oven above the door. There is a sheet metal cover held in place with one or two screws (usually one, plus a plastic tab going into a slot in the sheet metal). Remove this screw and pull out the sheet metal. You will see the light bulb and the microwave stirring plate motor. Note that the instructions say you should unplug the oven before changing the light bulb. GE's lawyers are afraid you'll stick your fingers in the wrong place and somehow get shocked if you don't have the power removed.
F3 Shorted key panel (touch pad). 1. Will occur if a shorted key panel is detected continuously over 60 seconds. 2. Replace key panel (touch pad). What you can first try before replacing the keypad is first unplugging the microwave. Then you can get access to the panel by first removing the top grill and then unscrew the top of the control panel. There is a strip that looks like tape which attaches to the control panel which you need to wipe off and then blow dry. may not work the first time but be patient. also clean the bottom of the door and the latches to make sure the connection is clean. After that is should hopefully work without replacing the touch pad. Let me know how this works out for you. Benjamin
Check behind the grill on the front top of unit. you can remove it by takign out a few screws from the top. There may be an access door there, if not unit would have to be pulled down and the case taken apart.
there are screws either on top of or in the grille that allow you to remove it. after screws are removed, open the door, pull lightly toward you starting at the control side if it does not pull, then it may have to be pushed toward the hinge side, then pulled out. behind the grille, is the screw attaching the control panel. lift the panel up before pulling out. Just to add a thought,if the display lights up it is probably not the fuse, although, in some models there is a high voltage fuse, it is pretty rare.
