I think $20 is a bit much for a camera this old. I've seen them online for around $5.

What I would really like is the User and Service manual available as a free PDF download. There are a lot of companies out there after an easy buck selling - what is essentially copywrited material from other manufacturers.

Closer investigation of the unit and case removal let me remove the stuck tape after pressing Eject - but it did not do this before I took the case off.

I also found a red "caution" lamp lit, and the top "camera - off- Player" slide button seemed ineffective. The orange "pause" light was also on, but no action upon pressing pause, play or stop - or any of the motor functions besides the load motor.

Video head not spinning at any time during attempts.

First look leads me to think it is a connection issue with the top switches - maybe corrosion on connector?

Thanks again for the picture - which I can't read. It has left me a little more annoyed because it proves that you have the information infront of you, but you are not "allowed" to convey it.

If you can get a PDF to me then I will gladly get you a fixya, other than that I've found more information on wikipedia regarding sony's Bad caps - which are only the electrolytic ones, and other camera forums who document the on-off switch as a common fail point, than on here.

Thanks for uploading the pictures. Now I know you have the manual - well done! - maybe you can tell me the values of the Electrolytic capacitors on the rear vertical board - or even better - a board schematic.

The actual tape transport is fine - it seems to be an interlock problem centred around the on switch - and no bad smells inside - but will swap out the problematic caps just to be safe.

Values are written on surface of caps and these are few to be replaced.
Please check, does drum motor (head) rotates when tape is inside? If drum does not rotate, tape mechanism will not work at all.

As I said in Expert's Lounge, I have this manual in paper form, not in PDF as shown in below image..

You are right, $20 is bit high price for such an old camera CCD-TY55E but Manual Zone is not my website so I told you what I know about source.

Regarding this camcorder, it has complicated mechanism and to remove stuck tape, you might need to de-attach sliding portion of mechanism.

You can buy required service manual from Manual Zone for little fee to have all details of camera including exploded views.

I have owned a Sony CCD-TR55E since 1993. It developed exactly the sameproblems as you described around 2000 and it had to go into a worhshopfor repaired. After dismantling it was dicovered that the guide poleswere jamming during the threading process. To cure this problem thesliding deck mechanism was removed and the guide poles re-aligned andaffixed to their driving arms and then reassembled. The cost of was £65in 2000. The repair was carried out by a Sony franchised Dealer.

After hours of laborious searching, I have found a link for a free download of a user manual for a CCD-TR55.

Look for white residue on the PCB or darkened solder about the SMD caps. If you spot anything that ressembles a water mark about a cap, it will need replacing. Sometimes the PCB land corrode, anything that does not look prietine, will not be. Make sure you use Pansonic caps , you can get them here

I have an old Sony CCD TR55E Handycam, I bought from new. Now I want to transfer my tapes to DVD, and seem to have lost sound output playing tapes to TV/Recorder. Tried running tape cleaner, no succes

What is your signal path? The question you need to answer is, "Where are you losing the audio?" Are you losing it between the tape and the playback head, or are you losing it in the cable, or are you losing it at the TV/Recorder?

Does the camera have an audio out into which you can plug ear buds to test the audio from the camera playback?

This cannot be done by you and you need to refer this to a trained camera technician.
Any force applied to remove the cassette will damage the mechanism.

Yes It Is Possible.
1. Cable options you can use S-video or RCA.
2. VHS payer that has a recording option. Make sure that it supports the Sony Handycam 8mm.
3. The procedure on how to transfer the 8mm to VHS is the same as how you view your video on the TV.
4. S-video or RCA should be connected on the Handycam and the other end is on the TV.

5. You can follow the instruction on page 27 (Sony Handycam CCD-TRV37)
6. You can also follow page 52 (Sony Handycam CCD-TRV37 )

Go to this Link for the user manual and the full instraction on how to connect the cables.

I get an eject symbol and beep and error code c32:11, original issue was that it ate a tape

The error C 32:11 denotes for mechanical unsuitability, This problem appears when the improper insertion of the cassette been done, or lose cassette tape stuck,
In all these situations mechanical adjustment is required, You are suggested to please contact any expert for the mechanical adjustment.
Hope you will understand my sayings.
Thanks for using fixya.

Sony Cam DCR-PC100, "eats" tapes and when ejecting, pulls tape

The take up spool is not working upon ejecting. I would take it to a Sony Service Centre for service.
