Is it a laptop or desktop computer?
If a laptop and running windows vista/7 or 8 please take a look in the power options in the control panel, make everything in never. See below. Another question is is there a "bluescreen" after it shuts down?

I think your pc is overheating.

The fan and the cooling element, must be cleaned.
The pc shuts off, when the cpu max temperature is reached.

The fan and the cooling element, probably looks like this:

A pc repair shop, can help with the problem.
Or try to blow it out with compressed air.
You just have to make sure, the fan is running when the job is done.

Good luck

Every time i turm my computer on the monitor comes on and then says going to sleep the computer shuts down will not stay on. I can"t do anything, it keeps shutting down and the monitor shuts down.

this is a computer problem not a monitor problem whens the last time you cleaned out the computer as in air blasted to clean out any dust if the power supply over heats this would cause a shut down the other thing would be a problem with the mother board open case look at the stuff inside and see whats dirty cpu, power supply , motherboard dust a #1 killer of motherboards

Hp FX 70 monitor keeps shutting off

Sounds like the problem is with the switch itself. No real fix for this.

Both these monitors will work with your desktop without any additional software.

My HP withWindows XP home

I would check to make sure that your fans are working. All of them, especially the CPU Fan. If this fan is not working and your chip heats up, it will shut the system down.  Open up the case and check this also make sure no wires are blocking the fans keeping them from working properly.

Blinking red lights on startup

4x red blinking light on this system means it's "CPU thermal shutdown" this is done when the cpu fan fails to cool the cpu and the computer shuts itself down to keep you from burning up the system.
This could be caused by dirt, hair, dust in the cpu fan or heatsinc or because the fan has failed.
you can blow some canned (dry) air through the fan and heatsinc undernieth it and try to clean it. most likely you will have to take it off to clean it thoroughly or replace the fan. It is about a 15-20 dollar fan and your local computer shot or neighborhood computer guru can replace it in 10 minutes, so dont let then keep your computer longer than a day.
If your computer savy, remove the case, inspect the fan while the computers ON to see if it sounds weird or is not coming on at all. it has usually two retaing clicps the can be difficult to remove with the power supply in the way. so be ready with a philips head screwdriver and a notebook to write down anything you dont want to forget to put back. If you decide to tackle it, post again here after you check the above mentioned things and ill get you a detailed breakdown of how to do it. It real is not too hard.

reseat ram if not i'd say to take 1 stick of ram at a time and start the computer with such might be a ram issue or run memtest 1.7 which can be downloaded here http://www.memtest86.com/ boot to cd once downloaded and burned to test ram

Hp 505n windows xp

There's a small battery on the circuit board that helps the computer keep track of the time when it's off, so the original problem may be a defective battery.

The power problem could be caused by several things. It will require some testing by an experienced computer technician to figure out exactly what's wrong, but a defective power supply module is the most likely cause.

Other possiblities include a defective graphics adapter on the motherboard...or dust buildup around the microprocessor, which can cause overheating,
