Question about D-Link Xtreme N DIR-655 Wireless Router
When the router began to configure the internet connection it asked for the ip address, default gateway, etc... I put all of this in and then it asked for the isp account name and password. No luck, can someone please explain what I am doing wrong? I followed the installation cd directions exactly.
You should not need to enter any of that information.
The router will find the internet on it's own, once the ethernet cable is connected and the router is turned on.
Press the reset button at the back of the modem for 20-30 seconds, this resets the router to square 1. Power down, wait 30 seconds, then power back up. You should have internet connection to the router, which can be tested by connecting another ethernet cable from the router to the ethernet connector on your computer.
Reply back what your objective is in getting to the routers setup page.

who is your Internet provider is it cable or ADSL , if its cable all you need to do is Plug a cable from the modem to the WAN port on your DIR-655 and another cable from the LAn Port of you DIR-655 to your PC onpen your Internet explorer and type 192.168.0.1 by default the username is admin and the password is BLANK(No password).
Go to Set up on the top Menu and then Internet from the side Menu and then Choose Manual set up.
form The internet connection type choose DHCP at the bottom of the screen click on Clone My Mac address
once this is done click on save and reboot.
Once this is done unplug both modem and router from the power
Now Power up your modem first and wait for all the light to come up, then power up the DIR-655 and give it a minute.
You should be able to go on-line now with these settings.
Also make sure you have the latest firmware on your DIR-655
here is the link to the latest firmware:
Just choose the Hardware revision of your Router and you should be able to to see the latest firmware, the Hardware revision of your router is on the back of the Unit and should be something like HW/Rev : A1/A2...
