I believe the pump setting is 6.0 for the 155 BTU model. I will know more after tonight, we are using a Reddy Heater 155 unit tonight at church. I will look on the side panel and see what the PSI should be for the pump pressure and respond either tonight or tomorrow.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

Download this service manual:
http://www.bealsmotor.com/Desa%20Hot%20Surface%20Manual.pdf

You may have a dirty Photocell as discussed on page 19 but you can have other issues. The manual will help you sort it out.

Things to look at are:
  • Photocell
  • air filters
  • fuel nozzle
  • fuel hoses
  • fuel tank cap
  • fan clearances
Everything I listed is covered in the manual link at the top of this post.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Plug it in runs fine for a few minutes and cuts off. unplug it for 10 minutes, plug it back in starts to run and cuts off.

If the unit runs for just a few minutes you could have a bad safety switch but you need to make sure you have the correct pump pressure.

Try putting your finger over the pump adjustment screw and see if you hear the heater become louder. If you do not hear a change in the sound of the heater you may have a problem with your end cover or pump pressure.

Where is the fuel filter located

i have to ask ...what is the air pressure set at.very important that it is set correctly.if it isn't the unit will only run a few seconds then shut it self down.look at the back plate and see if there are any cracks at the adjuster boss or the plug boss.if there is one the pressure is not correct and the unit will not run right.but to set the pressure you need to have a gauge so the air pressure can be set to the right psi...

Gas log will not stay lit for more than 5 minutes

Sounds like the gas regulator has failed.

There will be sufficient gas flow to light the pilot and get a flame prove, then the main burner lights, you will probably see the pilot flame reduce somewhat, and no longer fully surround the flame prove sensor.

When the unit is relighted, the complete sequence starts all over again.

Have the gas regulator checked and adjusted (if adjustable) or replaced by a qualified technician.

Heater runs for 20 minutes then shuts off

These heaters have built in thermostats. Sometimes they are adjustable sometimes they are not, check to see if your is adjustable and see if this fixes your problem. Also check to see if there is any air restrictions possibly causing the heater to over heat.

Won't stay on , not very consistent

You don't state whether this heater has the old style spark plug technology or the newer Hot Surface Ignitor technology. Troubleshooting will be different, depending on the style of heater, because the electronics are different.

You ask "what are the two adjustments screw heads on the back of heater". As stated by tros1 these are A. an air pump adjustment screw, and B. a pressure relief valve.

Both technologies require correct pump pressure in order to deliver the fuel at the proper rate. For a pressure setting video

Reply with the model number and/or the specific ignition technology and maybe we can help.
