Sounds normal. The harder the engine and transmission work the warmer they get. The fact that it cools back down during normal driving conditions is great. If it didn't, you'd have a problem.

The fan doesn't run on my procom md200tbe natural gas heater. I'm sure power source it good, etc. Is it thermostat controlled? Wondering if it's possible the temp never gets high enough for it to kick

There should be a 'snap disc' heat activated switch that is responsible for starting the fan on rise in temperature. This should occur around 140 degrees. If the fan does NOT start, it will cycle on the high limit safety, usually at 200 degrees. Some hi limits are manual reset. The flames should be two shades of blue, an inner cone of a shade darker than the larger, taller outer cone of light blue. An occasional flicker of BRIGHT orange may dance across the top of the flame, but never a YELLOW tip.

It would be hard for it to burn reasonably normally with gas pressure so low that it wouldn't produce enough heat to get to the 'fan on' temperature. There would be other issues too.

I'm just guessing the 'fan on' switch is defective or a wire is burnt off somewhere in the fan circuit. Of course, the motor could also be bad.

Checking for problems in the heating system.

One main thing to try when trying to diagnose the heating system is to find the heater hoses. You want to start with a vehicle that has cooled down. Start the vehicle and feel the hoses. There should not be any change in temperature in the hoses until the engine reaches the 210 mark or whatever your vehicles normal engine temperature is. If there is a change before that mark then the thermostat is bad and needs to be replaced, it also needs to be replaced it the hoses never heat up. If the thermostat works fine next is to check the heater block. You can do this by feeling the upper and lower heater hose for a difference in temperature. The upper hose is always hotter than the lower but there should not be a significant difference. If there is a large difference in temperature. Than the heater block must be replaced.

Gas Condensing Boiler High Efficiency Heating

Ultra high efficiency boilers have become one of the best buys in home heating. These high efficiency boilers have changed dramatically from the first pulse boilers that I had the privilege of installing twenty years ago. Today’s condensing boilers are much more reliable and will not shake and rattle the windows of your house like those old beasts did.

If you are looking to purchase or install a new boiler for your new or existing heating system then you need to look a condensing boiler to heat your home with. In the past twenty years the condensing gas boiler has evolved to be a reliable, very efficient way to heat your home.

Radiant heating systems with the right design feature can easily heat your home at temperatures that use just warm water. At these temperatures the water is pulling the exhaust temperature of the boiler to very low points. This gives you extremely efficient boiler operation.
The boilers of today are made to operate continually at temperatures of 100F or less. At these temperatures it is not uncommon to have the combustion analyzer give me readings of 98-99 % efficiency. To get these types of readings and still heat your home the heating system has to be designed to work at these temperatures.

The right condensing gas boiler coupled with the right heat transfer system to get the heat into your home the right way will give you the most efficient heating system possible with today’s technologies.

Do a bit of research and find a heating contractor that knows exactly how to install a condensing boiler with a radiant heating system properly. For your radiant heating system to perform well at these temperatures, your boiler will need to be installed in exactly the right way. There is not a lot of room for error when designing very high efficiency heating systems. To wring every BTU of heat out of the fuel that is being burnt means that you are also on the ragged edge of supplying just enough heat to the building to over come the heat loss of the building at any given time.

Is it normal for my furnace to have burner cycle once or twice

That sounds normal. When the bonnet reaches a preset temperature the burner turns off then when it cools down a bit the burner turns back on. Clean filters etc will help to keep the burner on longer in a cycle.

The extra benefit of a Modulating Boiler

You're looking to install a new hot water boiler or replace your existing boiler. You come across something called a "modulating" boiler. You wonder what on earth that means. I will attempt to explain some of the features of a modulating boiler.

How nice would it be if you could have your boiler make just enough heat to keep your house warm and nothing more? Your thermostat tells your boiler that you need heat in the house. The boiler starts up and heats the water that runs through the pipes to heat your house. The water does not heat up to temperatures that are more than just warm. But you notice that the temperature in your house is staying right where you want it to be.
This boiler is no ordinary boiler. It knows what the temperature is outside and varies your water temperature to make just the heat needed to keep you comfortable. The modulating boiler also runs much more then a normal boiler would but you can see by your gas bill that you are getting great efficiency from this thing.

The feature that makes this wonder so great is that it has the ability to vary the fire that heats the water up and down so that the water temperature stays precisely where the computer brain in the boiler wants it to be. This temperature is figured by measuring the outdoor temperature and changing the water temperature based on that. The colder the weather is outside, the hotter the water is going through your system.

With a system like this you will notice that your heat will run longer and still not cost anymore money. This makes you more comfortable. The modulating boiler will give you just enough heat to keep you warm without wasting much of the heat that a normal boiler would. This type of furnace will give you the most efficient heating possible on any given day.

Before buying a new heating system or replacing your old hot water boiler make sure that you check into a system that will modulate the fire and also vary your heating water temperatures according to the outdoor temperatures. This will save you money and give you a very comfortable heating system.

Condensing Gas Boilers - The Best Radiant Heat Boiler

The right condensing gas boiler coupled with the right heat transfer system to get the heat into your home the right way will give you the most efficient heating system possible with today’s technologies. There are a few things that need to be taken into consideration for this combination to work well and serve you well.

For this type of heating system to work you first need to have a radiant heat system that will supply enough BTU’s to your home at very low water temperatures. By low I mean under 100F. To get the output that you need at this low a temperature you of ten will need to design the radiant heat system with heat transfer plates. The heat transfer plates will make the transfer of the heat from the tubing that the water flows in to the floor as efficient as possible. Getting the floor warm enough to heat your house with low water temperatures should be the goal.

Now that you have a great heat transfer system you can set up your boiler to run at very low temperatures also. Most of today’s condensing boilers use out door reset technology to assist in keeping the water temperature just high enough to help the heat transfer plates produce just enough heat to keep you warm. On the coldest day of the year you want your water temperature to be no more than 100F and still be keeping your house to the temperature that you want it to be.

A great high efficiency heating system coupled with a good high quality condensing gas boiler will give the best in comfort, quiet heating at the lowest cost possible. Sure this type of system will have a bit higher upfront cost. And the contractor that you hire to install this type of heating system may require a higher rate to perform the work, But once you experience the comfort and efficiency of a top notch heating system like this you will soon forget the money and enjoy your nice warm comfortable home.

Can't increase the heat on the thermostat

Instructions1 On nearly every Honeywell thermostat, the heat setting can be increased by simply pressing the HEAT option or AUTO and using the arrow keys to adjust the setting higher or lower until the desired temperature is reached.
2 To set an automatic heating schedule for Wake, Leave, Return and Sleep, press the SCHEDULE button, then EDIT.
3 Select the current day and use arrows to select the time and temperature for Wake. For example, if you typically awake for work at 6:00 a.m. and want the heat to come on, use that as your Wake time and adjust the temperature to suit.
4 Select the day and use arrows to select the time and temperature for Leave. Since you will be leaving the home empty for several hours, this setting will allow the thermostat to lower the heat until your arrival back home.
5 Select the day and use arrows to select the time and temperature for Return. This is the time and temperature that you will choose for returning home from work and may want the heat on to warm the house for your arrival.
6 Select the day and use arrows to select the time and temperature for Sleep. Set the time you normally go to bed. The thermostat will automatically adjust itself to your selected temperature at that time.
Thanks

there is nothing to do with thermostat
as thermostat is control for heating
it helps to maintain normal temperature
and if temperature exceeds it switches off the heater...............
