Question about Dell Dimension 8200 PC Desktop

Outdated graphics displayed

Is there a way to update the graphics on my old dimension 8200? Compared to my other computers, this one seems to open up outdated or incomplete versions of any given website.
I think I'm up to date with all drivers, bios, etc available over the internet.

thanks in advance, Bob

Hi Bob, You are talking about two different things. Graphics are one thing but outdated or incomplete web pages is something else. What OS do you have? and what browser are you using? I would also like to know what plugins you have on your browser, like flashplayer 9 or Realtime or shockwave. At the very least clean out all of your temp internet files, cache, history, cookies ect so you are not going back to stored pages.

They have some VIDEO  patch and upgrades available that may apply to your computer. Seems that they used many different video cards. One option,if it is a stand along(not onboard) video iis to buy a better video card and change it out.If on board video , it it may have a slot for the video or buy a PCI visdeo card and install it while turning off the on-board one.
Here is the Link to download the Video drivers and patches.

Dell eDimension 8200 computer has started but monitor scren remains black

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA

the leads from your (motherboard to your hard drive) make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty

if its a 40 pin flat ribbon type it will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty

even something as small as a faulty electrical fan and its lead can cause you problems

computers need all power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket

if you remove your graphics check the socket to make sure its dust free

restart your computer then reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizard

hope this helps

Reinstalled Windows XP on an old computer (DELL Dimension 2400) and the monitor won't display above basic resolution. Downloaded and reinstalled the monitor driver and still no good. Opened up START

According to the Dell Support web site the Dell Dimension 2400 has a built in Intel 3D extreme graphics adapter, assuming you are using this and not a PCI graphics card.

Go to the Intel Download Centre and run their Intel Driver Update Utility which will automatically scan your system for updated drivers for any installed or integrated Intel devices.

If the Intel Utility identifies an updated driver for your graphics adapter then download and install that which should enable you to configure a higher resolution for your display.

Dell 8200 Dimension shuts down on bootup. Making

The clinking sound could well be your drive heads snapping back into parking location if your power supply is going out. Since the 8200 comes with a pretty weak power supply those tend to go out shortly after you've upgraded to a better graphics card or added another drive to the system. I've replaced mine a few times and now have a 450 watt supply in it which seems to be able to handle a powered video card and the 2nd HD, 2nd dvd without running out of juice.
Another good thing for these old dimensions is the addition of a case /slot fan to help with cooling a bit more. (see included picture)
I've had dealings with a number of dimensions from this era not cooling enough and the slot fans really helped stability.5a04930.gif
Let me know if any of this helps your situation.

Trying to install hard drive on Dell Dimension 8200.

Sounds like the drive from the 4700 is a SATA drive which uses a different connector than the 40-pin IDE. I couldn't confirm it, but the 8200 may not have SATA connectors for this type of drive. Although the 4700 appears to have both SATA and IDE.

You need to disable one graphic card. To do this, just go to device manager and select the graphic adapter you want to disable and click on properties from the context menu, just select the driver tab and click on uninstall. You will need to restart your computer to finish this task.

Dell Dimension 8200 won't power up

If the power button does not light up at all, I would guess the power supply has a problem.

Motherboard blew up

I would recommend buying a replacement computer, and install the Dell IDE drive in an external 3.5" IDE hard drive enclosure. This way you can pull your information off the the Dell hard drive, and then blow it away.

Keep in mind that new computers use a SATA drive, your old Dell '8200 has an IDE drive. Also keep in mind that your Dimension 8200 drivers won't work on the new computer.

You might be able to install your Dell drive as a slave if you have an open IDE channel available.

Good news is, your old Dell uses RAMBUS memory, which is worth a lot. It's a good parts computer, and most people who look for computer parts know of the bad capacitor issue on Intel made Dell motherboards from that era.

Dell Dimension 8200 Processor

hi, i also hav a dimensions 8200 which i recently uprgaded to a 2.8gh, but i discovered there were two versions of this system one which supports a 400FSB and the other 533FSB, these can determine the speed of ur cpu. Like you, I havent been able to unlock my clock speeds in the bios but i think you should be able to get more from ur new cpu by updating ur bios version to A09. check the dell site for more info on how to do this.
